I won't start a thread for this, but I'm going deep in a 5,000 play chip tournament. I have a large chip lead with 16 people left in a field of 165. Hopefully I'll win and pick up the 222k prize... It'd be a nice boost to my bankroll (currently at 1.57 mill).

I'm at zero play chips again, although since I sold 1 million for 5 bucks, I now have 65 dollars real money.

Final table: still have a nice chip lead, I'm in good position to coast into the top 3 if it works out.

Suckout for 30k chips leaves me with only 50k... still barely in chip lead.

James, you've inspired me. I'm trying to get to 1M play money then I'll cash in on the 500K free roll. I've been trolling the 5/10 NL ring games. So far $1000-$2000 profit in an hour isn't too tough. I can't play as frequently as you do but I'll get there eventually.

I'm at 30K right now. Almost there! ;)

Update

@waldo: You might want to have more than 1 million before you play the 500k freeroll. Only 2 entries doesn't exactly make your bankroll safe.

Now, update:
2mil.tif

Bankroll: 2.1 million. Bankroll isn't increasing as fast, but still going up. I beat the 300/600 tables really consistently now (today at 16 PTBB/100 over 3k hands). My worst sessions are pretty much break even now, which is nice. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll be rolled for the 500k freeroll.

On the 5-10 tables, 2-3k an hour, ur doing something wrong. Playing 5 tables and pushing all in with AK or better and folding everything else will make you more than that.

Well... I'm only 2 tabling so that's probably part of it. I'm also following the Chris Ferguson "once you double up your buy in, cash out and find a new table" strategy. No doubt that slows me down as well.

I'll try upping my number of tables and see how far I get...

I actually did the same thing, and left the tables once I hit 2k. But still, 3k an hour really is quite slow. You're giving the donks too much credit at those stakes. For example, are you raising 3-4x big blind with premium hands? That's a huge mistake. On the 5-10 table, I always raise 13-15x big blind. So big blind is 10, I raise to 130 with ACE-KING. Trust me, ace-5 will call you. Hell, ace-2 sooted will put u all in lol.

CC, you play micro stakes real money now, right? In your experience what level play money is about the level of 0.01/0.02? I would imagine at some level it would be playing as well as at micros.

i'm playing 2nl. and its way different than any playchip table. for one a raise often takes the blinds in 2nl. in playchips it doesnt matter where or how much you raise people will call. and in real money i find people reraise more. you hardly see that in playchips they just flat call to see a flop then try to win a big pot.

I always stayed away from the NL ring games in play money. I don't know if you can learn anything when 4-5 people go all in PF. I learned more from the play money SnG's. At least when you get to the 10,000 and 100,000 buy-in people are making a sincere attempt to play the game. I did about a million chips or so strictly in the SnG's back in the day. it was definately a grind.

What limits did you play? Because you can definitely win the blinds and get 3-betted at 300/600 and (more) 1000/2000.

100/200 fr 1k/2k fr. i didnt play 300/600 too much. i know you can get 3bet but i just say in 2nl is more likely they 3bet or fold to a raise. at 1k/2k i would open raise 1400 and get 3 or 4 callers. at 2nl the would fold or shove IMO. anyway got a brag 2nd in the 100k. i had no shot at 1st the guy was stacked and way better heads up too.

Funny. I hadn't checked back on this thread until today but that's exactly what I started doing. Big 10x and up raises and I started getting paid off. Now I'm making 10x what I was before. I'm also 4 tabling, which I find difficult. I guess practice helps.

I am not sure how much playing Play money will help your real game.
But I wish you the best in reaching your goals.
Good Luck

I would if I could... but I have no way of depositing. My credit card, etc. won't work. I guess it's b/c I'm from the US. But I plan on moving on to real money anyway in a week or so.

My internet's been spotty this week so not much to report. Bankroll is 2.33 mill.

1c 2c has it's donks. I would compare 1cent2cent to the 300-600 easily. I know one horrible bad beat I had (that's why i remember it lol): I have aceking, 4x BB total. Get reraised to 12XBB. I take all in (was on a donk). He calls. shows 2-4 offsuit. Flop ace-9-10. I' thinking I got this. Turn and river 3-5, he wins with straight. But yea, has it's donks for sure. People dont care to take u all in for 80 cents on gutshots and middle pairs with good kickers.
