I have been playing Poker on Pokerstar for 2 months and lost 850 CAD already. Should I stop?
Don't listen to the chuckleheads who tell you yes or advise you to play with play money. Play money games in no way reflect their
real money counterparts.
What it does sound like is that you are playing above your level. So, start with looking at the stakes that you are playing at and what kind of games you are playing. For example: If you are playing $10 SNGs and have played 2000 and have lost a total of $850. Then you are not cashing and winning enough and you should step down and play a smaller buyin. But, if you are playing $50 MTTs and have only played 17 then there is nothing unusual about not cashing or winning in those large fields...especially for a newer player.
The same applies to cash games. If you are playing $10 NL and you are down $850. Then you need to go down in stakes and find a level that you can profit at. Then you get to a point that you are beating that level and can move back up. However, if you are playing $5/$10 and over the course of the last 4 months you are down $850, then you are probably holding your own, although I would probably move down a level (depending on my
bankroll.) Bankroll management is vital to poker success.
Issue #2: You say that you have been playing for 4 months. It sounds like you are a novice to the game. I would suggest that you get ahold of some strategy books, videos, online programs (like the CC 30 day Course) and put in a lot of study time. When I came back to poker after a long absence, I spent twice as much time reading and studying as I did playing. As I improved, I was able to spend less time studying and more time playing, but even though I play at a very competitive level now. I still spend almost half as much time studying as I do playing because there is so much information and many more tools available than in the past.
Finally, IF you love poker like I do. Then there is no quit. You don't sound like you want to quit. So, study, improve and practice!
