Awesome Article really interesting things to know I agree with timberwolf hehehe almost made me change my mind and start a career as a dealer xD I think the salary might not be the best for a regular dealer.. but no I´ll rather be on the tables as a Player and have the chance to win big money on a Tournament :D

100k a years would be a good one in fact, it would be a Dream, Since in my country the Dollar is worth almost 4 reais "my country's currency" would give almost 400,000 "reais" a year.
But I do not have the qualities suggested by the article which the person must have to work in This sector . but the advantage is that after reading this Article I start to admire more of these people.

Great tips in the article, I enjoy dealing but I wouldn't like to do it professionally, I prefer my job and the constant math would piss me off.

If I am asked what I would prefer as a Job between poker dealer or Poker Pro I will choose the second one but this is not affordable and I can not make living only from poker unless I have the first job as part time job. Poker dealer has to be professional and patient and should pay attention on how to handle Tilted and Drunk players.

I was a Dealer in Reno, Detroit and Indiana. It is what actually caused me to get burned out on playing. Plus those slot machines for 8 hours a day...lol

But that $21,000 is base salary only. I was making on average $25-$30 an hour. It all depends on the dealer. How many hands an hour you can deal, how you interact with the players, how you look (no not attractiveness but professional) what level the game is, and the type of players at the tables (the tourists tip better than the regs).

It is not a bad career, just took the joy out of something I loved to do.

I for some reason the dealer seems to be a young and beautiful woman who cleverly throws cards.A very beautiful sight,But in my life I didn't see it,She should be familiar with the game. I don't see anything wrong with that. But this is when working in a legal institution.

I am usually be a dealer at homegames, but I would never proposed to be a professional or work as a dealer in real life. I think you have to have a lot of discipline and great knowledge of poker as well as great concentration and a lot of patience for hours. Also I like more to play poker, although at the moment I cant pay my rent playing poker...:p

Good article!

Nice article! I have never considered to be among the Dealers but I appreciate their skills to handle the game. One of my friends during his university days was dealer in casino. As i remember, he explained to me how to count fast the figures multiplaying by 5 and other math tricks with numbers. What I meant to say, the Dealer must know well math and operate with figures quick. This is basis and starting point for the good dealers. Good luck!

My friend used to be a poker dealer several years ago and he was studying about a month to deal a cash at local city casino.I think anybody can become a dealer .The only thing is a wish to be and work as a dealer ,so no problem )))Personally I like to deal for one tour when we play live with my friends and then I am getting boring,so I think dealing is not for me)

Thanks for very interesting guide! poker game is many-sided and here is the place not only for players, but also for people, who fixes up games. One of main persons in live poker is dealer. This job is very hard, because if you are going to be a dealer, it`s not enough to shuffle cards only. You have to be moraly strong!
Personaly I find more interesting to play poker!:fight:

Respect to the work of the dealer but I see it as a profession more, he has a role to play and does not necessarily have to be a poker lover like us players. You do not have to like the cards to be a dealer, it's a job. It must be why I do not call my attention too much

I actually applied to be a poker dealer at an Indian casino nearby but found out the hard way that they only hire Native American Indians or Asians at the casino where I tried.

That's interesting - you don't see many Native American Indians working at Harrah's Cherokee.

might have something to do with the fact that most Native Americans on the east coast were either wiped away or forcibly removed from the area and relocated westward. Didn't realize Indiana had much of a Native American presence but if you go out to a place westward like Montana its pretty common to run into them.

Being a dealer seems way to stressful.

It seems as if you are doomed if you do and doomed if you don't, if you are a dealer. First, for discussions at the table, you cannot win. If you are wanting to let the players enjoy the game and not be annoying with chat that the players aren't interested in, you will have players say that you are stodgy and uptight. If you keep the discussion lively, many people get annoyed at dealers who talk to much.

Second, there is always some way people will blame you for something.

Third, the players will take everything out on you, if there is a rule to enforce, as if you are the one who decided to make the rule for the table.
