Waterlogged

OMGoodness - I would have to pee 60 times a day.

If I drink 3 litres and pee out 2.9 litres then I only needed to drink .1 litres.

make sure it filtered,
i drink minimum 3 litre each day (include herb tea), more on gym days
to jazz up plain water, place in slices cucumber & lemon, is also packets with vitamin C powder flavours, i use these during school

The idea of drinking a daily minimum amount of water is just a gimmick, there is no scientific data to back it up. While dehydration is a health hazard, it does not happen because one "forgets" to drink liquids, but rather when one does not have access to liquids, cannot keep liquids down because of intractable vomiting or other medical conditions etc. But for healthy people, drinking water without being thirsty is neither beneficial nor necessary, and only helps people who enjoy urinating more.

Coffee is a liquid with diuretic properties, so drinking coffee instead of water has an overall negative impact on your hydration status because it affects your kidneys's capacity of concentrating the urine, and thus maintaining homeostasis. So for hydration purposes, you are better off not drinking anything than drinking coffee while playing poker.

Make sure the water you drink is filtered. There is so much crap inside of the water (even from bottled notwithstanding the TAP water) that it would make your head spin.

So. Please heed this small advice. Filter your water (even bottled, in fact that is worse because it's in plastic bp #). Get a high-grade filtration unit and filter it yourself.
I don't need any filter on the water that comes out of the taps in any city in my State, which is Victoria in Australia, our tap water shits all over bottled water.

@zinzir Do you have "scientific data" to back up that a daily minimum is not beneficial?

Your little trick of asking doubters to provide proof (scientific or otherwise) in order to invalidate an idea that defies common knowledge or sense is old and has been used by charlatans since the beginning of time. It is an effective mind trick unfortunately, because the average person is ignorant enough to be confused by it.

The physiology of blood volume homeostasis was studied in detail and is pretty much understood. Serious research, especially in the medical field is quite expensive and studies are not performed just to prove a point to people who don't understand how the human body works.

However, for people interested in the complex mechanism our body uses to maintain just the right amount of water, this might be of interest:
Hormonal Regulation of the Excretory System

Maintaining a proper water balance in the body is important to avoid dehydration or over-hydration (hyponatremia). The water concentration of the body is monitored by osmoreceptors in the hypothalamus, which detect the concentration of electrolytes in the extracellular fluid. The concentration of electrolytes in the blood rises when there is water loss caused by excessive perspiration, inadequate water intake, or low blood volume due to blood loss. An increase in blood electrolyte levels results in a neuronal signal being sent from the osmoreceptors in hypothalamic nuclei. The anterior pituitary is composed of glandular cells that secrete protein hormones. The pituitary gland has two components: anterior and posterior. The posterior pituitary is an extension of the hypothalamus. It is composed largely of neurons that are continuous with the hypothalamus.
Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH)

The hypothalamus produces a polypeptide hormone known as antidiuretic hormone (ADH), which is transported to and released from the posterior pituitary gland. The principal action of ADH is to regulate the amount of water excreted by the kidneys. As ADH (which is also known as vasopressin) causes direct water reabsorption from the kidney tubules, salts and wastes are concentrated in what will eventually be excreted as urine. The hypothalamus controls the mechanisms of ADH secretion, either by regulating blood volume or the concentration of water in the blood. Dehydration or physiological stress can cause an increase of osmolarity above threshold levels, which, in turn, raises ADH secretion and water retention, causing an increase in blood pressure. ADH travels in the bloodstream to the kidneys where it changes the kidneys to become more permeable to water by temporarily inserting water channels, aquaporins, into the kidney tubules. Water moves out of the kidney tubules through the aquaporins, reducing urine volume. The water is reabsorbed into the capillaries, lowering blood osmolarity back toward normal. As blood osmolarity decreases, a negative feedback mechanism reduces osmoreceptor activity in the hypothalamus; ADH secretion is reduced. ADH release can be reduced by certain substances, including alcohol, which can cause increased urine production and dehydration.
Chronic underproduction of ADH or a mutation in the ADH receptor results in diabetes insipidus. If the posterior pituitary does not release enough ADH, water cannot be retained by the kidneys and is lost as urine. This causes increased thirst, but water taken in is lost again and must be continually consumed. If the condition is not severe, dehydration may not occur, but severe cases can lead to electrolyte imbalances due to dehydration.
Another hormone responsible for maintaining electrolyte concentrations in extracellular fluids is aldosterone, a steroid hormone that is produced by the adrenal cortex. In contrast to ADH, which promotes the reabsorption of water to maintain proper water balance, aldosterone maintains proper water balance by enhancing Na+ reabsorption and K+ secretion from extracellular fluid of the cells in kidney tubules. Because it is produced in the cortex of the adrenal gland and affects the concentrations of minerals Na+ and K+, aldosterone is referred to as a mineralocorticoid, a corticosteroid that affects ion and water balance. Aldosterone release is stimulated by a decrease in blood sodium levels, blood volume, or blood pressure, or an increase in blood potassium levels. It also prevents the loss of Na+ from sweat, saliva, and gastric juice. The reabsorption of Na+ also results in the osmotic reabsorption of water, which alters blood volume and blood pressure.
Aldosterone production can be stimulated by low blood pressure, which triggers a sequence of chemical release. When blood pressure drops, the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) is activated. Cells in the juxtaglomerular apparatus, which regulates the functions of the nephrons of the kidney, detect this and release renin. Renin, an enzyme, circulates in the blood, reacting with a plasma protein produced by the liver called angiotensinogen. When angiotensinogen is cleaved by renin, it produces angiotensin I, which is then converted into angiotensin II in the lungs. Angiotensin II functions as a hormone, causing the release of the hormone aldosterone by the adrenal cortex, resulting in increased Na+ reabsorption, water retention, and an increase in blood pressure. Angiotensin II, in addition to being a potent vasoconstrictor, also causes an increase in ADH and increased thirst, both of which help to raise blood pressure.

figure-37-03-01.jpeg

Action of aldosterone: ADH and aldosterone increase blood pressure and volume. Angiotensin II stimulates release of these hormones. Angiotensin II, in turn, is formed when renin cleaves angiotensin. This increases water retention and blood pressure.

Water is an essential component of all body tissues and is present in chemical reactions, respiration, circulation, kidney function, digestion, defense systems, skin, among others. There are also nutrients that need water so they can be loaded and distributed throughout the body.

Throughout the day we lose body fluids through perspiration, sweat, saliva, urine and feces. In people who remain exposed to high temperatures or engage in physical activity, the loss is even greater.

The amount of water in the human body varies according to the age, sex and amount of adipose tissue that the person possesses. The delivery can occur through ingestion of liquids, consumption of foods that have large amounts of water (vegetables and fruits) and through body metabolism.

It is recommended, on average, to take 2-3 liters of water per day. In special situations, such as excessive heat and intense physical exercise, this consumption should be greater. Only people with some specific health problems such as heart, liver or kidney failure may have water restrictions and should follow the recommendations given by doctors and nutritionists.

An important tip to control and estimate daily water consumption is the use of water bottles during the day and for those who forget to ingest water, there are currently mobile phone applications that have the function of remembering it. Do not expect thirst to hydrate yourself!

Thank you for this post. It's so easy for people to forget about the fundamentals of life when we get sucked into the highs and stimulations of games of chance :)

I agree so much on using bottles to really track things, and because so many people are chronically dehydrated, it's a great idea to overhydrate rather than underhydrate in general

Water is in fact on my top 6 list of 'things you need' to be your best!

Yeah sodas and juices are so darn delicious. I quit soda 100% about 3 years ago and I am ridiculously happy I did. I will say though for the first 6 months or so it was really difficult. You're essentially coming off of an extreme sugar addiction etc. I undoubtably faced classic symptoms of withdrawal etc. But I will say that once you get past that first year or so, it gets soooo much easier to say no to it. I don't have any of the cravings I used to have for soda and when I really want something a little extra I have a sparkling water with fresh lime juice etc.
I also drink kombucha which takes a little getting used to but it's super good for your gut and have a nice little fizz to it.

Yeah I only know one person in my life who drinks enough water every day. I'm trying to get there. Everyone else is pretty much... constantly dehydrated. Which can wreck your body.

Good for you clubsta! It's never easy to kick an addiction, especially one that we've had since we were just little kids.

Proud of you for being able to kick the sodas and get thru the withdrawal period. I'm right there with ya!

I've been told from many health coaches that when people do a 28 day sugar detox they see greater changes than any diet, exercise routine, meditation plan etc. Looks like you may have sparked something with the soda drop. Great job and wishing you much discipline as you continue to getting enough of the good stuff in while keeping out the bad :)

Be the protector of the kingdom my friend! :tomato:

I was just asking for proof since you claimed that "no scientific data" exist. If you are referring to "scientific data" I was hoping you were coming from the empirical sciences but as I assumed instead you rely on hypotheses and attempt to ridicule anyone expecting any proof. Also an age old trick called a straw man.

We live in a day and age where theories are taken as fact in the face of contradicting evidence of the contrary. Global acceptance (note we're way past consensus it's become unquestionable) of stories, even wider accepted than any one religion, made up by very intelligent people which can even be supported by mathematical equations yet lacks any observable experience.

When you mentioned "scientific data" I was hoping that you'd actually have something that involved careful observation, applying rigorous skepticism about what is observed, given that cognitive assumptions can distort how one interprets the observation. That your hypothesis was formulated, via induction, based on such observations; experimental and measurement-based testing. Hoping that you can show these deductions (data) which can be drawn from the hypothesis.

My sincerest apologies if this was seen as an attempt to defy our holiest common knowledge. It's not personal only science, but if we continue to accept peer reviewed nonsense as facts, which I am not saying your article is, it will certainly effect our future generations on a very personal level. But hey who cares about proof right.
