I think this has been decreasing over time but in general I think people tend to compare poker to gambling

It's tough to change the point of view of some people, so yes, in many places poker still has a bad reputation- actually any gambling activity in general is not well viewed... I guess the religion and the way people in your community were raised plays a factor too, also the government view is important too(if it's illegal in your country than for sure it's a 'no go')...

GLGL all at the tables and have a great weekend :)

Thanks to sites like PS, poker becomes more and more famous and obtains a better reputation.

Good topic! In my country, due to ignorance, most people also consider poker a gambling addiction. I think that not enough resources are being invested in promoting poker as a sport. I'm sure it would take poker to a higher level.

Well, people say drinking, smoking, gambling. Poker may be thought of as a skill game like blackjack because it has been talked about on TV.

I think for the time being poker as a card game basically has a pretty bad reputation, as you said, thanks to the movies, etc.
But a new time is moving and there are some progress, and I think in the future everything will be much better, thanks to the new generation. Although everything is in doubt, we do not know the interests of the future generation.

I live in Ecuador, where casinos and gambling have been banned for many years, it is not even possible to transfer money to an online casino account

by the simple fact that you asked this question, you just cast a little negative shadow on this wonderful game, of course not

Poker is the most famous card game playing, since most of those card games considered as gambling, no way out for poker too. Gambling itself is an unwelcome act, no doubt why even today poker has a bad reputation. I don't even think it is not, because it can easily be an addiction which might take everything from you. There've been lot of people lost their whole wealth, life in the tables. Thus, many countries prohibited entire casinos, gambling related games.

Thanks to international poker championships, famous TV shows and superstar players, poker stepped up positive since then. It's getting become more legal business and *sport gradually.

I think it does still have a bit of a bad reputation, some still think of it as taking place in a smokey back room with a secret password needed to be let in.

I don't know, I've seen/read enough movies/books in which someone will invite their friends round for a poker night and it's just seen as harmless fun, so in that sense I don't think it's got the seedy reputation that it maybe used to have

Poker has always been associated with the mafia and casinos. In western movies the poker games always ended in shootings and deaths. Today we have a more organized and calmer situation.

Unfortunately poker still has bad reputation because people identify poker with gambling. Interesting lotto is not gambling? Or horse racing? How much money is in the football? They paid so much some players and is it worth it? Play poker for fun eith friends and dont listen anybody. They are wrong.

Yes definently, and i kind of dont blame that way of thinking, because poker will always be associated with gambling, and almost everyone who plays poker is called a gambling degenerate.

Indeed, poker has a bad reputation, I would not say, because poker is shown on TV, and people perceive it more or less as a sport.

If you play for fun and don't lose your money, there is nothing wrong. But there are people predisposed to gambling addiction. We all hear about successful players. And how many people ruined their lives with poker

Like many things, we always hear the bad stuff about gambling and addiction because of the devastation it causes, however - there are millions of people who play poker with no issues and of whom - love the game and manage themselves and their "vice" well.
Pokers reputation is really immaterial, its big business and just continues to grow - people still flock to play the game both live and online so they are hardly worried about the reputation.

No, poker is well regarded lately, in fact I think it has always been well regarded, before it was more for those who had the money, today with freerolls a simple mortal like me can play and even tournaments with more accessible entries I can play.

Hey ! the situation has somewhat leveled off - both television and the Internet help - but still there are many people who consider Poker a semi-criminal version of the game of cards (((
