I believe that most of us who play poker can and do know in some way that the game itself consists of constant preparation, study and mental effort, which is necessary, practiced day after day like any other sport. I consider that if it is a sport, mental. I also believe that in all games there is chance. At first glance poker has cards, money and chips involved, but that does not justify that it cannot be considered a sport. Is what i think

Poker is a game, not a sport. I does not belong at the Olympics. But in my opinion, there are many sports that are currently at the Olympics that would not belong there either, so why not add Poker? Nah just kidding. I do think that Poker can be compared to for example a game like Chess. A thinking game. Obviously there is still a difference because Poker is also a game of chances.

Have you ever imagined poker in the Olympics? let me know your opinion .... poker is a sport or a simple game of chance?

Poker is absolutely a sport. If it was a simple game of chance then anyone can be a pro, but not everybody can be. Poker challenges people to think in a way that some just can't comprehend, such as like when Daniel Negreanu can predict other people's hands.

I personally believe it to be. I would put it in the same category as chess. Extremely complex for the great players but presents itself simply enough that anyone can enjoy the game.

Great post.

Good Luck To All:cool:

It's a game, same with chess. But the players could be athletes in what they're doing...

Poker is a zero-sum game, where one player must lose in order for the other to win.

Being recognized and executed as a sport mind, more and more.

I believe that over the years, new modalities will emerge but I do not believe in Olympics.
Especially because this event is aimed at a specific age and so there would have to be an advance job and a basic job. And not all countries play or are allowed to play. I believe that for these and innumerable bureaucratic situations will not exist hehe

not consider it as sport but as a way to earn some money or a hobby that can bring some monetary benefit if played wisely. I play some sports and some hobbys like blackjack, roullette, videogames in general.

Definitely not a sport. Entertainment - yes. A game - yes!

Poker is a game that is highly dependent on luck. For example, if you are a runner and run faster than anyone, then in a competition you will most likely run faster than anyone. And in poker, even if you are a good player, the river can change everything:D

For me poker is game with elements of luck (gambling). It can not be rated as sport because in sports (no matter if physical, mind like chess or esports) better player almost always wins. In poker in short term variance can have so strong effect that even much weaker players can win big or good players to be in severe downswing. And short term in poker can mean days, weeks or even months.

As a sports enthusiast, I have a hard time considering poker a sport. there are definitely attributes that have me on the fence, but in the end poker remains in the game category for me.

Every game that you compete with someone is a sport, in poker you can say most of the time luck is important, but isnt it important in for example football?

Exactly,

Above our friend mentioned that generally the best in their sport wins and in poker it is not so.

I have to disagree;

Watch a football match between teams, and not always the best wins. There are uncontrollable factors as in any type of profession or sport and this randomness is for everyone!

In poker, does it put a professional player on the final table versus 8 recreational players 100 times, and with a sampling tell me that the pros wouldn't have an advantage?

Is poker a sport?

Is ice cream a vegetable?

Is a beefsteak a vegetarian meal?

Is pink blue?

Can a fish fly a plane?

Are iron nails good to eat?

If I cut my leg off, will I grow another one?

If I send my cat to college, can she become a brain surgeon?

All of these questions have the same answer.

I don't think of poker as a sport, sports are related to physical competitions for me(speed, strength, endurance)poker is also a competition, but it is a battle of the brain,as many have written it is similar to chess. This is an exciting, interesting game, but I can not attribute it to sports.

poker as a sport

the truth is that poker should be considered a sport, just like chess, anyone can play it but very little they play it at such a high level, it is a game of strategies, mind against mind, and the chance of the cards will It gives that subtlety so that it ends up being so difficult, it really is fantastic, I don't know if people would like to see it at the Olympics, I really would love it.

If we're talking about like the more modern sports scene that include chess, and pro gaming than HELL YEAH! Though definitely not what I think of in classic physical sports.

Poker

Personally, I do not think that poker is a sport. This is much more serious. In poker, there is much that is not in ordinary sports. Poker has its own special philosophy. Can an ordinary sport offer as much emotion and drive as a quality poker session ?!
