I think when a player gets beat by a player that chases down the cards for the win, just extremely irritates them to shout out donk :O) Play how you play and if being a donk is what you want to be, you play that donk well, play it well :O)

I think yhou have a misconception of Donks. It appears that loose play for you is a Donk. Loose agressive is a perfectly valid form of play which in many cases brings in huge amounts of chips. A donk to me is someone who makes an obviously wrong play. For instance calling an all in with j9off when there are four cards to a flush on board, ovious trips and or obvious srtraight possibilities. Callling an all in wtih a low pair when all the board cards are face cards
etc. Calling all in preflop with 62 off etc.

I’m always amused by those on poker forums who define what exactly a donk is

A lot of examples are laid out by those who clearly ARE donks, and as such would understand exactly what donk play would look like.

In Casino, Ace Rothstein (DeNiro) said up in the rafters, they had card cheats who knew every trick in the book. They knew exactly what they were looking for and would spot it when they saw it unfold in front of them.

In this thread, same thing. We have (players) who describe donks and donk play in painful detail. Because they know donk play up and down and can spot it instantly.

Not a cheap shot at anyone specific. But I see some simple disagreements on what is a pretty much meat and potatoes kind of discussion. Nothing earth shattering being discussed.

I’m no superstar. No pro either. I don’t offer poker advice. Who would take it?

For some reason, I feel like the "donks" or gamblers, recreational players, fun players ... Usually get lucky and hit all the cards.
Am I the only person that feels like that?

I believe it depends a lot on the type of game and the atmosphere of the table. But if you know the styles, why not alternate them? I think it even helps you to be less predictable.

Donks?

I'm a little confused. I thought a donk better was a player who bets into the pre-flop aggressor instead of checking and letting him make his continuation bet. Hell, that's something I do all the time. How else can I judge, at least online, the strength of his hand? If he folds that's a good tell his hand was weak. If he just calls that's a good tell his hand might not be as strong as he'd like it to be. If he goes over the top, well, that's usually a good tell, too.

You guys make it sound like a donk is a player who calls with nothing and then makes his hand on the river. Or maybe I'm reading you wrong.

Yeah, I'm confused.

Haha. That's awesome! Love 'em or hate 'em, they're good for the game.

Something happens to your brain when you raise the limmit. When you start playing more expensive poker you begin to play like a poker player, atleast you try to fold some trash hands. When you play cheap poker or freerolls it seems that you do not care enough so some questionble hands could be played. Nothing wrong with that. In big moments and big tournaments it can look stupid but at the end of the day does really matter how you won:cool::cool::cool:

What you described above is a donk bet. As I already mentioned above, for the purpose of my original post, I find the following David Sklansky quote to be close to the meaning of "donk":

"In many locations you constantly run into people who know how to play pretty well if they have to, but don't. In a tournament, they tend to play a little better, but their overall play is poor because they are there to have a good time. Of course they enjoy winning more than losing, but they enjoy playing most of all."
