What happens when you start on a downswing and now you're super under-rolled because you're withdrawing and losing? Also how can you possibly know your hourly rate at live poker with any accuracy whatsoever?

How is this any different from any from of "paying yourself" from poker profits though??

What do you mean? Like basically the point of having a bankroll at all is to lower ror right? If we're withdrawing on downswings doesn't that just hurt our ror?

I guess the main question I have is what is our goal? I still haven't heard what the goal of our scheme is. I just don't see how "paying ourselves" a fixed hourly solves any problem whatsoever so I'm a bit skeptical of it. If my assumptions about our goals are correct, we should just cash out everything above x buy-ins after every session.

If you withdraw in any way at all, I don't see one as being particularly different is all? Like if you're withdrawing and losing simultaneously it will always suck/affect your R-o-R.

That's why what I was suggesting is basically only withdrawing when you're "upswinging." Minimal impact on R-o-R, while also coming closer to paying ourself some fraction of our hourly in the long run.

In Sand's case I think it's just that he can't really move up, so it's kind of silly to just keep pouring more money into a BR for 1/2 when he's already got over 40 BI's. It's not like his odds of getting a 40-BI downswing are high. In fact they should be redic low.

Set aside 6 months "staying off the street" money and then all other money is on the table. Until perhaps you decide you no longer want to move up and you have maybe 300BIs for that level.

300BIs?! 60k to play 1/2? Sounds unreasonably high. Buy a new car and still have BR leftover.

300 is too high for live, but I think 40-60 would make me feel comfortable. 18k to play 1/3 live is certainly a lot, but if that's your only income source, I think it's a fair number.

60 BI's is pretty reasonable assuming you have a good amount of living expenses set aside. Since your hourly won't be that high, you need a bigger safety net.

300 BI's might be a bit of overkill for cash games :)

I wasn't making a point of how many you need to feel comfortable at a level, I was making a point of how many you would need before you started separating life roll and poker roll. Up until you've made tons of money for that level and no longer ever want to move up, at that point you can start separating. Before that I feel like it's all just poker money, even if you have 200BIs.

Gotcha. Though Sand is in an awkward situation in which he has 2 levels available: one that's full of fish, and one that's full of sharks. It's entirely possible his 1/2 winrate would be higher than his 2/5 one lol. Or at least so close that the 3x difference in swing-factor wouldn't be worth it.

But I understand what you meant now :)

Not only is it possible, it's likely IMO. As long as I'm in this town, I probably won't ever be moving up because it hardly makes sense. Not only is the game absurdly tougher than 1/2 but it isn't guaranteed to run every night and definitely not with a full table at all times. Even if my win rate was better at 2/5, it'd have to be a significant difference. The swings would be way worse and I'd have to play at my peak more often.

Mine included zero frisbee and only 4 or 5 beer. I think you win this round!

You know a simple water hose is king in every water balloon fight. So save time buy a extra 50 foot of hose, and **** em up.

BRO! Where are the grenade looking water balloons?

We just dumped on some randoms, about 75 grenade water balloons, last week. Having a park behind my house makes for some very nice opportunities to mess with randoms. :D

This thread's almost run its course. I'm nowhere near my goals. My winrate is good, but a lot of time off while Merge figured its sh*t out and then while PokerTracker figured out wtf to do with Merge HH's.
