Leak: Playing cash games several times, I tried to take part in hands with single-suited cards that can turn into a flush/street and because of this I lost a lot of money.
Fix: Stop playing almost all hands and wasting your chips hoping to get a straight/flush draw on the flop by giving away a lot of chips.

In my experience, a pretty big problem for new or inexperienced poker players are small pocket pairs that they should have folded after re-raising or playing UTG, but instead they call and go to the pot with them trying to play them!! ! Sometimes they hit a set and win a good pot, but most of the time it's a waste of money and a cooler that could have been avoided!!!

@GarotoMaroto

You saying you would shove with AA pre- or after the flop in a cash game? I can understand that in a tournament, but then not in a cash game? I am no expert on playing in cash games, at all, but my thinking would be to extract value from a premium hand like that?

If that is your leak, what do you see as a fix?

Just interested to know???

Until you have told us how you would fix the leak, I will wait on approving your post, as it does ask what the leak is and how you would fix it?

Thanks Marc
I dont know,in cash game shoving aces are so bad?
Its just like a tournament but without increasing blinds and ITM
People would still call with AKo ,TT
You can be losing in a flop like K75r
and losing in a flop 38Kfd
I dont know if iam wrong actually, but if i have aces i will be shoving pre flop or flop, because i wont to extract to maximum amount of chips
If the flop is A72r and iam nuts and i wont get any call this would not make any sense,i think its easier to get called in shove in pre flop even in cash games,am I wrong?
If thats my leak them i should play chill and try to imagine whats happening while the cards are turning, but its not hard to hit a terrible flop,so folding aces just because the flop its scary its a terible move (i think so lol)
God bless

Yeah this is a huge blunder. You need to maximise value with aces. Yes 3bet, 4bet and 5bet them preflop but only using a normal sizing scheme. Dont just open RIP them or 3bet jam.

Post flop you just need to play poker, if SPR is low it cant be that bad getting aces in. But at higher SPRs you will only get called when beat.

Considering players who already have a good level in studying poker, the worst leak is the lack of patience in long-lasting tournaments.
I believe that in addition to the mental part, the player must also be well prepared physically to sit for hours.
What would improve your game in these cases would be to do mental work to avoid losing patience and physical work to spend hours sitting at a poker table.

First of all, you need a lot of patience. Choose the cash table at which you feel comfortable, change it as many times as the players with crazy actions bother you, they will spoil your game.Don't play too many hands, be selective and adapt to the situation. Avoid very large pots unless you are sure you have the best hand. Avoid people following you from table to table.Be confident in your good actions, a penny is better with positive value in your bank than thrown to others.....
It was for me, many times I wanted more and in fact I lost 🤔.I think it's more mental and accounting than game fever.

I think the biggest leak comes from losing control of your game. And the worst thing is that you lose this control precisely during a bad streak in the game. When the card comes, I play carefully, see the table, and don’t take big risks. But once you start losing, not always, but it happens that you lose the game and start betting on everything, and it is at this moment that you should play super carefully. You need to control your game very seriously.

I think that the biggest leak that everyone playing poker has is Discipline.
Especially playing online.
You have to have the discipline to focus on just that one computer screen and not have any other distractions to make you loose focus.
I have a two monitor setup on my computer, so I can sometimes be playing poker, watching you tube videos on the other screen, the TV is on and my cell phone is in my hand.
When all of this happens, I have lost my discipline and most of the time am losing the poker game also.

Leak: Being overconfident and don't work on your game, with reviewing your hands, especially when you run fantastic.

Study your and your villain hands, to get a glimpse what is good and what is not good, even if you think I am winning so I do everything ok.

It would be better to avoid the multiway pots since your chance to win in such pot is divided equally to the number of participants in the multiway pot.
And it is hard to get rid of the temptation to get a better combination on post-flop spending your money in favor of the the opponent's better hand.

I am trying to get into the cash game streets recently, mainly due to time issues.

For me, the biggest leak I believe should be fixed for anyone starting is: play the right hands preflop.
Cash is totally different from tournaments because of the rake. Rake impacts the game a lot!
We need to resist the temptation of defending the BB with hands like 87o or J9o all the time, even if we get a lot of callers behind.
Also, don't chase small pairs trying to make a set. It is a big trap, a lot of the times when you hit and show aggression, people will fold. They can be played in the right time, but it is bad to call all the time trying to make a set.
Knowing when to squeeze, when to 3-bet light (yes, even in micro stakes there are good opportunities for that) also makes a difference in the long run.

But for those who already play relatively well preflop, the major leak is not to be aggressive enough, such that the red line just goes down.
A healthy red line is essential for success in cash games. It should at least be neutral. Because every time in cash we play for ChipEV, we don't need to be scared of busting the tournament, or to be concerned with ICM questions. Cash game is one big session that lasts the entire life.

Biggest leak -- calling to see a flop with any two cards...rather than something more range limited.
Fold more for goodness sake (Yes...I'm speaking to myself!)
Cheers,

I think one of the leak of cash players is often to fall in love with big pocket pairs after the flop ( also share by tourney players but less i think).Making those folds will definitly help the winning rate

leak: I play a lot of hands from the button, small blind and big blind, I believe I lose a lot of money in these positions.

fix: I must have a more accurate and consistent range in these positions to be more profitable.

Expiration: play with medium hand cards in more situations with a remarkably low score and lose a lot of chips.FIX: play with medium hands in fewer situations and in situations where you can only pay the minimum before you see the cards on the flop.

Leak:
Calling from the BB in MW pots with weak holdings just because of pot odds. Many players just are enticed to call in the BB when the multiple players before them called an open from EP because of the pot odds. Due to being OOP, being dominated by better hands and rake structure this is just -EV a lot of the times.

Remedy
Study postflop situation more and be aware of the real GTO calling ranges in the BB in MW pots (use e.g. GTO Wizard).

I think there are 2 big issues I see in the cash games that hurt many players.

Playing way too many hands. While it happens in tournaments as well, I was shocked in my last casino cash game play seeing some players just in 70 to 90% of hands if possible. what got me more was how often the flop would be 5 or 6 handed.

This leads to the 2nd part of the problem I see, while many players are playing to many hands, they are also just limping in and calling of limps. While limping get you to see a cheap flop it just amazing to see how they fold to a raiser after limping or some of them are going to just limp call along. While I was able to get most of my raised hands to the flop with only 1 or 2 hands some of the worst limp 70 to 90% player who called would play fit and fold on the flop. While I do like to play an active game, it's really hard to win if you're playing in this wild reckless manor.

While I do see the same in online games it just seems worse live and that's what's weird to me.

The problem for me is that when I try to play a really good pair of cards, many players call the raise with garbage cards. This is where I lose most of my money.

The real problem is knowing how to give up when there is a chance that you are losing, especially when you are with medium pairs. Nothing crazy, but those who play or have played Cash... know that it's very difficult to stay emotional!

What do you think is the biggest leak in a player's cash game that, if corrected, could increase their win rate?

I'll start:

Leak: Not understanding the dynamics of multiway pots (which happen a lot in cash games). For example, understand that your premium pocket pair does much better heads-up than it does multiway.

Fix: Your game will improve as you improve your reading of the board and getting better at letting go of a hand that was great preflop but is losing its value as the hand progresses. Don't just focus on your pair of Aces. Look at the board texture. You may still have that same top pair after the turn, but if the board has straight and or flush possibilities (that don't help your hand), and there are multiple players in pot, and they are eager to keep putting their money in, you probably don't have the best hand.
The biggest leak in a Cash Game player is the psychological side and the mindset. Because many times a player will have a very solid theoretical foundation but it will be poor on self knowledge and self understand, thus it will commit several mistakes. On the other hand, a player that is not so good on poker theory but has more control over itself it will be more profitable on the long term.
A Cash Gamer must learn that we are not playing to prove anything to anyone. We do not pay to see, we are not trying to be better than others, we are trying to be profitable. We think as we are an enterprise and run it accordingly. We do not want to play against regulars most of times to prove we are better than them. We want to play against recreational players, because it will increase our winrate.
A good cash gamer will know when to begin and when to stop. We do not stop playing because we are winning a lot of buy-ins and we do not stop playing because we have lost 4, 5, 6 buy-ins, this is why we have a bankroll: we stop playing when we are not focused, when we are bored and specially when we are tired. We do not wait to get nervour on some street because our equity didn't hit the board, we don't need to get nervour because we opened KK and once more came an Ace into the flop. We quit the tables when we feel the first signs of exausthion.
We aren't, by any means, being disrespectful to our opponents and we are not going to respect our opponents more than they deserve to be respected: we are going to analytical, look at them and try to make the best decision based on facts. First of all, we are going to respect our own work, our discipline, why we are playing. Once we respect ourselves we start to respect our opponents, without making the mistake of either respecting too much or respecting too low.

I would advise players to choose their starting hand range more carefully. I currently work as a dealer in a small poker club and constantly watch many players play. True, in our club they only play five-card Omaha, but this does not change the essence of the matter. So the main reason our clients lose is that they enter the game with garbage hands, when the flop opens, the players become attached to it and cannot fold their hand. This is my personal opinion, but I think the range of starting hands is the basis that you need to pay attention to first of all.

bet your big, premium hands early and often. whether its AA pre flop or flopping a huge hand, do not let anyone see it for cheap. raise and raise huge as early as you can...too many want to chase for even a semi bad price... you got to make it so huge of a price to continue... do that and you are likely going to win a lot more of those pots than you lose, and thus increase your win rate.

Don't play a lot of cash games, usually PLO8 when I do, but the leak is not knowing when to walk away. This usually happens in one of two ways. First I get up early then drop down to my original starting stack, and then continue playing while thinking "OK I'll start winning again". Second, if I lose early and then recoup my losses, again keep playing while thinking "OK I'll keep winning".

The fix would be to accept that sometimes breaking even for the session is going to be your best outcome for the day.
