It was actually a British boat! Most of the people who died were English. Come up with another excuse for your lack of knowledge. My teaching was focussed on the reasons for it kicking off, life in the trenches and the effects of WW1 on post-war Britain, social responsibility and voting and such. No idea about some American boat.
I've also learned more about both world wars since school than at it.
Anyone play hearts? I just did this which I think is pretty cool.
P.S Hearts seems great for degening.

Yeah I've shot the moon 3 times in one game before, although when I play I don't particularly try to maximize my chance of winning if I have any chance at all I try to do it. Plus the computer players are awful I'm winning something like 60% of games over a big sample and I do dumb shit like try to shoot the moon way too often a lot. Obviously if there was no skill edge I'd win 25% so that's actually a pretty huge difference.
Awwwww
SO this is where we hang out now then?
Yeah actually funny story literally the first time playing before anyone taught me what shooting the moon even was I got 26 and was frustrated was like **** I got all the points then they informed me that actually I just won and everyone else got 26 I was like oh ok cool.

As far as WWI books go A World Undone is a great place to start. It gives a solid overview of everything. My interest in WWI really started when I had to read All Quiet on the Western Front in HS. I've since read it multiple times. It's a fictional account but you get an idea of what it was like to be a German soldier during the war.
One of my favorite podcasts, Dan Carlin's A Hardcore History, which you can find on iTunes for free also just started a multi-part series on WWI. He's only done the 1st 3 hour episode thus far. My guess is that it will run 12 to 15 hours total but if you'd rather listen than read it might be a way into it as well.
Not really? The monthly thread is where all the cash-gamers chat in general. The low/mid stakes thread we had going was more strat-based, with HH's and stuff. Not so much of that in here usually.
Ill have to locate this thread
