Many times I've played a tournament with lot of players (3.000 - 5000) and after 3-4 hours I finished between 20 and 30 place and the prizes are small enough for so many hours!! Even in 15th place it's not something big comparing to the final table which is one winning hand far.. e.g you play a 3.30$ with 3000 players and you get 15 place which gives you 31$ but if you had won your final hand you would double and wait 30 more minutes and get 7th place which gives you 140$.. These are real prizes from today's "big 3.30" (pokerstars).. Is there any rule on how prizes are calculated and is it the same on other poker-sites?

My opinion is that it would be better if less players were paid but with higher prizes... There is no point giving 6$ to places 500-600 (600$ total) and 7$ to places 400-500 (700$), you don't play a 3,30$ MTT just to double your buy-in (better to play a sit&go with much better chances to earn 6$), so in my opinion it would be better to add this 1300$ to the higher positions...
It seems to me that it is correct, it just gives a chance the weaker player in cultivation without much damage...

I dont like playing micro MTTs because they usually take too much time and you can't win much unless you make final table.

The reason for the deep pay out structure is to keep players happy that they won money like a slot machine giving a small return. The small pay out money stays in action. If the tournament pay out structure is front loaded, a lot of the winning money gets cashed out from the site.

I prefer betonline prize distribution software.
Far better than pokerstars and 888poker.

play with a smaller number of participants, and not freerolls and zoom games, sit and go, and the prizes will be more

I don't think it's only a matter of skills how far will you go in a MTT.. There are many hands you have to win to make it to the final table and this depends on luck too... e.g. you can't fold A-A when someone goes all-in (pre flop) and many times I've been knocked out with this hand and even more with K-K..

I agree luck has a lot to do with it. I think the skill plays a part in making the decisions on whether or not to take a chance and test your luck...

I also share your opinion, always thought that the prizes for these positions are very low, and if we compare to the free freeroll is much worse

Slightly off-the-topic, its a big mistake to undermine skills and over-value luck. Quite honestly, in order to succeed, you have to battle against luck, in almost every thing you do.

It depends,if it isnt hard to win the prize then it is better to stay how it is but if is really hard then they should make some changes.

You know the tell "time is money" so if you are welling to spend a lot of time playing tournaments you will be good at ... but don;t forget you will need money to play with ... there to many factors that will involved in winning a tournament that will cut your losses and make a profit ... until then you will just eat a lot of frustration and from there comes bad decision in the future playing... The result is better you don;t play tournaments. and find somenthing that you could grind and play live tournaments for hobby.

you dont understand how its work. i cant find any 27$ mtts with so many players, but have another example - Big $27, 8k guarante. min players: 3, max: 15'000. lets take it with max players amount (24,55$ pool, 2,45$ to PS) 24,55$ X 15'000 players = 368'250$, where 2'924 (19%) ppl are cashed! for first you get 10,4% (almost 38k), 2nd - 7%, 3rd - 4,9%, 4th - 3,4%, 5th - 2,3%, 6th - 1,6%, 7th - 1,1%, 8th - 0,7%, 9th - 0,5% (1,8k) = Final tabel get 31% of all money! the other 69% must be distributed between the rest 2915 ppls) 2924 place - 0,01% 36$
in my example youd get 184$ for 190 place, its 0,05%

20% of players are cashed! 20-30% of pool is to FT! min.10%-30% is for 1st place
thats the point of this game, not to take 278 place and make ITM but win and get much more than other.

returning to the question, yes thats fair!

Tournament prizes are very rare, of course, the change happens more often, and that's a big prize to take very difficult, too many applicants

but if you had won your final hand you would double and wait 30 more minutes and get 7th place which gives you 140$.

This here ^ is faulty thinking for tournament play. Why would we consider 'wait 30 more minutes' to try to blind down & ladder up? There's more to it than that. We need to use our stack (whatever size it may be) as a tool that helps us get to the finish line (& we need to adjust accordingly).... & the 'finish line' is our goal! (at least it should be)

I checked out prize structure for "Big 3.30" (both 6k and 10k Gtd) tourneys on PS - there are 20% players ITM. Your suggestion to reduce the number of players being payed means that at most 10% should be ITM. But note that getting ahead of 80% of the players is still a noticeable accomplishment, and not being payed after all the time/efforts can cause frustration for players. And surely PS (or any other poker room) doesn't want discourage players from playing poker so such prize structure seems reasonable.

Moreover you made almost 10x from the buy-in - it's still a great result, that's like 1000% return on investment. But if you see the time you spent on the tourney not justified play tourneys with higher buy-ins for example - 10x from buy-in would look much more attractive.

So after all your answers I think I will quit playing tournaments.. Maybe one with bigger buy-in once in a while.. Better to play one big every week than one or two small buy-in every day! :)

Better course to play in tournaments with large buy-ins

Better course to play in tournaments with large buy-ins, for example in Sunday Million. there you spend a lot of time but also the prizes justify waiting

how i understand it was KO tournament, so you'll need to eliminate as much players as possible. 12,25$ for each!

:top: agree! bankroll management is a fiction to give you play poker a little longer,
there is no difference how to lose 1$ x 200 times, 10$ x 20 times or 200$ once in Sunday Million!
:D i rly wrte ths/
