I see a lot of people doing re-entries and rebuys in excessive amounts.

I don't know about you guys, but I think this could be a path to bank roll destruction.

If you are one of those, let me know why you do this.

If you don't, let me know your opinion too.

I don't like re-entry or rebuy tournaments, but they are everywhere. Also,I didn't like it when they started appearing more and more at online poker rooms because after that there were less freezeout tournaments at some online poker rooms.

I am not a fan of re-enter or rebuys, it also draws my attention as there are many players who do many, that puts you in a situation of having to reach the final table or perhaps among the best 18 to recover your investment and That is very difficult to achieve, I would do a re-enter in tournaments having a decent bankroll, what happens is that normally I classify by satellites and paying a re-entry generates conflict for me.:jd4::jd4::jd4::jd4:

If a player has the bankroll to re-enter or rebuy, then what does it matter if they re-enter/re-buy multiple times.

I like both. They're similar in many ways, but I prefer re-buys over re-entry mtts. It'll differ from site to site, but I like that re-buys allow you start off with a decent sized stack after late registrations ends. With re-entry mtts, at same level, you could still be facing 1-2 hours of late registration. So, re-buys just move a lot faster than re-entries, for the most part.

I also like them because they generate bigger prize pools. A lot easier to cash in if that is your goal and a much bigger top prize if you can make it there.

In a way, re-entry/re-buy mtts could be a freezeout if you don't buy back in.

I am not a fan of the re-buys to be honest. I find to often its got people not playing poker but just gambling at lower stakes. To me it actually ruins the fun of playing. As poker sites and casino stared using them more I find myself playing playing less on there sites and casino. Before my local casino stopped poker or covid I would not go 3 miles to my local casino but drive 100+miles to play in a place that had more variety in buy in levels and not re-buy tournaments. While I dont mind the 1 time re-buy or re-entry the unlimited with 4+ hours of this going on on some site are just killing the game for players like me who actual work. What I would give for the good old days of 180 man SNG tournaments. Could play, win and still get a good nights sleep. Today Monday - Thursday i dont buy in very often anymore.

As for bankroll destruction, OMG I love seeing when a player has bought in for the 4th, 5th and even 6th time. Just nuts. Its not easy to make money at this game but the way they play I cant imagine is profitable.

neither

I usually don't re-enter or rebuy, the odds of winning after playing for a long time are pretty slim. But if I were to be eliminated withing the first 10 minutes I might rebuy

I never rebuy. I assume that if it's not going well, it won't go well.

I mostly stay away from rebuys as well. Yes it can be bankroll destruction, even for those who may play lower stakes for fun and are gambling more than playing the game. Like an earlier reply said, when I see someone who is at their 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, etc. rebuy, I know they're erratic and adjust my play against them accordingly. Once you get to that many rebuys, it becomes increasingly harder to break even the way payouts work for most tournaments.

I used to filter out rebuys and such but I found that if you can get in about 45 mins or a little less before late-reg is over then it can be worth it, especially w/a double rebuy off the bat, imo. It's real easy to pick a nice spot to double-up during this time since most players are waiting for late-reg to end. It's almost like the $ bubble. Finding a fat and "willing to call anything" stacked player shouldn't be a problem. Once I double or even triple up I'm set to cash, if not make a final table. Being selective, I believe, is the key.

I agree with you, but for me, thats a good thing, because the prize gets bigger.

In tournaments with an add-on, my first goal is to make it to the add-on period and then purchase the add-on, since these chips are cheaper than the rest of the chips. Purchasing the add-on is probably the easiest edge, you can find anywhere in poker, as long as there are people not doing it. So for me it makes no sense to play an R+A tournament, if you are not willing to purchase the add-on. And to reach that goal rebuys will sometimes be nessesary. For R+A events I recommend a bankroll of at least 250 BIs, whereas for other MTTs 100 BIs are enough. So 550$ for a 2,2$ R+A and 1.375$ for a 5,5$ R+A. Or at least something in that ballpark.

In tournaments without an add-on, there is no difference between reentering and simply playing another one, and reentering a tournament 4 times is no more detrimental to the bankroll than playing 5 similar tournaments and not cashing in the first 4. For me the decision to reenter or not should be based upon, how far the tournament has progressed, what other tournaments are now available, and if the tournament seem to be soft.

On 888 Poker you get to keep your seat, so if its a really good table, that is certainly a valid reason for reentering. There are also not that many tournaments running, so if I bust early, the choise might be between reentering or wait 30 minutes for the next one to begin. On pokerstars I rarely reenter, because you dont get to keep your seat, and there are so many tournaments running, that usually I prefer to just buy into another one. But if I run kings into aces 13 minutes into the tournament and get felted, then why not reenter. There was probably a reason, why I wanted to play that tournament in the first place, and that reason has not changed in 13 minutes.

I too am not a fan of rebuys. I think that it changes the early tournament play. Players knowing they can rebuy can take a lot of risk for doubling up and amassing a chip lead early in the tournament. This type of play forces me to make decisions for a significant amount (or all) of my stack when I may only be slightly ahead. If I bust I don't want to rebuy.

Hi Jason Bralli. I don't care much for RE MTTs but I do like rebuy/addon ones. The reason I like them is because you can double buy from the start, and to add on gives me an advantage over the ones who can't. This is what I do. I rebuy from the start, and if I make it to the add on, I do so, but if I don't make it, I'm done. I'm not going to rebuy 10 times, like some do. That makes you have to win the MTT to even break even. It's stupid. GL to you

I don't like tournaments with rebuys and add-ons, tournaments with re-entries I don't see badly, I think it is counterproductive for the game.

I have also seen many people who do that and most of them play every hand all-in, and when they lose they rebuy again and again, the rebuys are dangerous for the bankroll if you do not know what you do, when I play tournaments like this I never do rebuy, I don't like it, but I have friends who play certain tournaments with a strategy that they have (usually it is an 888 Poker tournament that is or was $ 0.99 an entry), which is: They register almost in the last minute of the tournament and rebuy when they enter and if they lose the chips they rebuy until it is time to do the addon, of course they are good at playing and I think they know what they are doing, in general their strategy does not failure and win the tournament or reach the final table, they always get more than they invested

I rarely do re-entries, and I always do rebuys when they rub my strong hand with some rubbish

I avoid these tournaments at all costs. When there’s reentry people tend to play super loose and it’s so much easier to get a bad beat against you. For rebuys, unless you’re willing to do so, you will end up being behind the average stack. I just prefer one shot tournaments where skill is more important.

I am on the fence of liking or disliking re-buys and add-ons. I have enough bankroll to do it but when playing a free-buy it doesn't seem like poker until the re-buys are over!!!! I would much rather win my chips than buy them!!!! I play in a private group that has a free;buy Monday - Friday. I usually try not to re-buy but if I do I go with the double re-buy. Most of the time I do the add-on only because I would be less competitive without it. using this method I was at the final table 4 of my last 5 games with 1 win and almost had back to back wins but took second in the game.:D:D

Everything has it's advantages as well as disadvantages. Rebuys and re-entries have their place and depending on your style of play they can be very advantages if played properly.

There are cases when the players won the tournament by re-entering, but I think that if luck changed from the first try, then you shouldn't invest money on the second attempt, but this is my opinion

I agree! I also don’t like re-enter and rebuy. I have almost never used these opportunities in tournaments. Sometimes add on, but very rarely!

The key words here are "if you do not know what you do". Moving all in with any random hand is for sure a negative EV play. But the problem is not rebuying. The problem is moving all in with hands, that you should have folded or come in for a normal raise instead. And really people, who do this, probably also do things like playing slot machines in the casino section. They are just looking for luck and excitement, and as long as they can afford the money, they lose, its up to them.

I am not interested in re-entry and rebuy only because for me it is a waste of money. Therefore, there is a re-entry and rebuy in the tournament or not, it makes no difference to me.
