I hate getting in a game after it has started, even live games with my friends. It sucks getting in the middle of something.
For me it seems my luck has already been lost before i get there.
But again, luck can appear in very different ways

I try not to get in late cuz starters can be more giving fish ;)
But if for real reasons I'm to late to sign in, I play like an exited fish ;)

and there is that! It seems for me that many people get in the game to see what happens, and olnly star playing seriously after gettin some hands.
So in the beggining, people are more "giving fish" as the dude over here said

I don't like late registering because I want to build my stack when blinds are smaller.

I think anything over 15 BB's are good to go with. You just have to wait for the right spots to put your money in and when you're short stacked in tourney, always be the one pushing in, don't be a caller with weak hands.

Late registration MTT ruin my day, but seems to be all there is outside of SNGs. I try to enter with no less than 10 BB, but will go crazy with 3 if it is close to the money.

I prefer to get in during late registration. Maybe after an hour or so if there is two hours of reg.

The lower levels can be really dangerous with so many donks playing donk hands and chasing rivers.

tourn late reg.

For me depends on tournament situation.
First the #1? buy in amount?
2nd is tournament Gtd?? how long does late reg continue for and which part of late reg.???
From here now I can see how many blinds and correct value.

add

Also player pool size is very important and type of tournament (turbo, deep, final table experience).
Like if your registering into the last level be ready for a lot of all ins and 4 and 5 betting. So gl if you do! :D

I play develops better when I check for 20-30 minutes before the end of late registration. 10-15 BB is enough to double. But it must be slow tournaments with deep stacks.

I'd like to have more than 20 BBs in tourney in start, but it is not as strong rule. Sometimes it necessary to have 10-15 BBs, but it will be more nervous.

It depends on your target and also your level of patience because if you are playing not a Turbo MTTs with a deep initial stack and huge field and also a long late registration period (of more than 2 or 3 hours) so it is very hard and tiring to stay more than 6 or 7 hours in the same tournament!
So in this case it is better to enter in the end of the late registration and when 70% of the field was already eliminated...

But in this case you need to know how to play short stack most of the time and choose the best spots to double your stack!

Same as alot of people here. Close to the money, feeling lucky, extra cash, I'm in. I prefer shorter games anyway and her it is.

Playful says that late registration should not be allowed in any tournament:eek:

That depends a lot on the payout structure, average stack, number of remaining players, etc... I try to assess if it's worth registering gathering all that info. Usually if a need to double up once to play close to the average stack, I'm inclined to do it.

my friend, who is actually winning some local tournaments weekly, she usually join late because her strategy is to pick up small stack and stealing pot. Its a risky play but she did it and made quite a lot of money from that.

I don't pay big money tournaments and prefer freeouts with no rebuys or add-ons. For me depends on how many people are left and if I think I can then make it to the money, then if I decide to get in I'll try and wait to the last level, get in, and even though don't like to. go for the add-on.

I prefer to get in early. Depending on the game if I am late I'll jump in with at least 15. But then again I have started without checking before and been closer to 10bb out. Basically just a shootout to see if I get lucky. But the casino is 1.5 hours away so if I don't leave early enough I am hard pressed not to give the tourney a shot at least, unless I am able to re-calibrate to a cashgame
