I have been a professional tournament player for 14 years. 2.5 years ago I started my own YouTube channel youtube.com/c/JeffBoski to document tournament poker in Las Vegas. Many of my vlogs have been controversial, but I feel that is the best way to show the realness of my unique occupation. I have visited fine steak houses, massage parlors, strip clubs and many casinos in the 300+ vlogs I have uploaded.

I have longstanding accounts on Pocketfives and Twoplustwo but I am new to this forum. Feel free to Ask Me Anything!

Hi Jeff, welcome to the forum.

I’m a MTT player online (micro stakes) I play mainly the BIG $0.55, $1.10 and $2.20 on Pokerstars. I make the payouts in the majority of tournaments I play. But I very rarely make the final table where obviously the most money is. Have you got any tips on how to make the final table more often?

Be fearless and aggressive and embrace the variance that it brings. You have to take more risks and not worry about being the bubble boy. Aim to be the chip leader at the final table and you will able to use your chips as weapons against the shorter stacks that are looking to move up the payouts.

I will be mainly playing at the Rio and Wynn/Encore. As a general rule, the bigger the field, the softer the tournament. Play as many "themed" events as possible. Practice good meta game to tourney select. For instance, on a given day if there is a 5k at the WSOP, a $1600 at the Wynn and a $500 at the Golden Nugget, the softest field on that day will be at the Nugget. All of the pros will choose to play the 5k or $1600. Don't let your ego get in the way of your profitability.

I don't know about you and never heard about you before but I thoroughly enjoyed Post #5 above. That is my mantra embrace the variance and use the pain to come back better next time and also use chips to apply pressure to not only the shorter stacks but anyone that enters the pot.

Friend of mine dropped his wallet with two thousand euro in it in work one night when he was getting off a forklift looking everywhere frantic for it,
Told the lads in work they had a great laugh while he was looking for hours
Only when we where about to clock out 8 or 9 hours later returned it to him he could not believe it insisted on handing me 20 which I did not want but meant more than keeping thousands by deceit.
Nice to get that $100 voucher

The hand you reference in my screen shot only shows the end result.
I had just sat a hand or 2 before and Jeff got hit and was down to a BB or two-
Went in pre.
I luckily had QQ and plenty to cover = monkey call click.
By no means did I out play!

I got lucky- and it looked cool- so I used it

Stick to your solid game plan. Fold bad hands, play good hands. Don't be frustrated that you haven't had any good hands in a while. It all evens out in the long run. I don't think your bluffing frequency should increase just because you are card dead.

Great question. Variance is tough for anyone to deal with. Often you will start asking yourself the following questions.

Am I running bad?
Am I playing bad?
Am I running bad AND playing bad?

You have to be honest with yourself. Take a step back and look at the big hands you played. Ask other good poker players for their options on your big hands. Make sure your train of thought is logical.

In the end you have to embrace the variance.

Good question. When you are not in a positive and focused mindset my best advice is this quote from Wargames. "The only winning move is not to play."

Once you are in a tournament, you don't have a choice. You need the mental endurance to handle the emotional swings that come with every hand you play. Don't get too high and don't get too low. It is normal human behavior to feel disappointed or tilted if you lose a big race or if you are on the losing end of a suck out. That is what makes tournaments so hard. Unlike cash games, you can't just get up and leave if you aren't feeling good physically or mentally.

On the flip side, when I am running good, playing good and feeling good, I call that "The Zone." Try to stay in the zone as long as possible and you will feel like an unstoppable force. Play fearless and aggressive and good things will happen in the long run.

My only routine is to play almost every day. It just depends which event I think will be the most profitable each day. The WSOP has a great schedule this year with many $250-$1,000 events. I will be playing at the Rio most days.

Fight to urge to get drunk with friends every night to drown the sorrows of your tournament failures. Come back stronger the next day. Get at least 6 hours of sleep, eat clean and exercise.

I have heard good things about primed mind but have not checked it out yet.

Too True! Week or so ago I was making a batch of medicated chocolate covered caramels. Yummy I was wise enough to not take to many tastes through the process. I made a few hundred of them so it was a long process.
My mistake- I wasn't wearing gloves when hand dipping the caramels in the medicated chocolate. Basically took a 4-5 hour hand bath in medicated coco balm.
Oops! Thank goodness was only playing a couple small buys and a CC freeroll. Couldn't really see. Clicking aimlessly until adrift......
I didn't make the money- or even my bed- that night.
Awoke with a nice keyboard pattern pressed into left side of my face and perma- grin still lingering.

It was cruel, because opponent had pocket kings I also remember that one of your fans disturbed the table chat with "GO Boski, GO!" messages during an hour or more, was it part of your strategy? )

What’s the best route or play with AK post flop and you miss the flop completely, obv a cbet is always likely but what do you when they call or raise big. If you miss the turn and river what’s the standard action taken. I know position and stack size dictates a lot so let’s say we have position and 30bb.

Ah yes, the million dollar Venom final tables. Good times. I edited the twitch streams into highlights on my YouTube channel. I have never hired a viewer to spam the table chat. I don't think it would be an effective strategy.

Too many variables to give an exact answer but it is best to play AK aggressively. Sometimes you can represent AA or KK since you have the blockers. If you miss the flop, it is better to c bet dry boards like 442 or 952r than T87s when your opponents continuing range will be much greater.
