I have folded AA pre once in the Sunday Million close to the money and I would have been knocked out if I played it. It is tough but if I get that spot again I will fold AA again. The situation does not come around too often if I am a lock to cash and there is someone who has me covered in a big tournament and puts me in pre flop. I would say in the long term this is a bad fold cause you wil win the hand more often than not.

I have lost so many times with KK AK and QQ close to money bubble that I don't have any difficulty in folding them.

I play aggressively more often so I do not drop a pair of AAs, but if the table is on the table, then I can make an exception.

I have folded a few times pre-flop a pair of Jacks because they have gotten me often in trouble. The opponents can win with overcards.

Amazing recognition of the field... I would've done the same. Sit quiet and let them get eliminated to be able to cash higher.

I have folded KK preflop many times, I have only been wrong a couple of times.

One time I incorrectly folded KK preflop bit ended up dodging one of the players flopping a set of Jack's, so it worked out

I would never fold AA preflop, I have hated putting my whole stack in preflop with AA, but it's the nuts so you can't lay it down

I have folded pocket kings to mutiple re-reraises pre-flop. I don't know I could ever fold aces, even when a scenario called for it. Actually struggle to fold aces even after the flop tbh :)

In the tournament played and got to the final table, there were big bets and 2 players went all in, it was necessary to give a lot of chips, and I dropped 99 and the flop dropped 99 more

folding

It is hard to fold but anything better than QQ or AK off but I do if I sense that it is a solid shove by a player trying to double up.

I dropped kK because 2 players went all in preflop and as I had tight stack and was close to the awards I decided to drop the hand

It can be profitable to fold AA if the situation involves another players elimination and therefore your survival and payout.

Can't remember if I've ever done that but certainly folded QQ preflop, AQ etc.

AA in the very early stages of a big and expensive MTT!

While AA is a super strong hand and should be played as so I often hate to risk my entire tournament life on a hand which isnt guaranteed to see a win. Obviously if it was a low steaks tourney my opinion would be slightly different. I find its better to remember that doubling up in the early stages of a MTT is a lovely feeling and gives you a little more wiggle room when trying to survive and get to the ITM stages. However you have to consider that chips you lose in the early stages are far more valuable than chips you gain and so should consider this with every decision you make early doors!

Good post and intresting question =)

Maybe you are close to the money or a big pay jump. You don't really want to take risk right now but you look down at a big hand. Some players move all in which would put you all in. You go back and forth whether to fold or go all in but you make the fold. What's the biggest hand you've ever folded pre flop? What was the reason for the fold? I've folded KK once and don't think I ever will again. I was on the money bubble and regretted it. I would have won against 2 all ins.

Into frerroll. Folded every monster hands
Because the other player go all in whit very vas hands. And usually they win !😤

Wake up, AA cannot guarantee the winning. If it's the one of very first hands in super profitable tournament, I don't want to lose because of misfortune. And yes, I was talking about going all-in.

Agreed Papier.

This is a terrible fold preflop. If you're not going to play the very best starting hand in holdem, then what hand are you going to play? To suggest that you're not going to play AA because "it's the beginning of a really cool tournament and some fish mindlessly goes allin" is just a poor mindset. It also gives a fantastic example of how NOT to play AA.

I believe a better approach is one that many of the top pros take. That being, as long as I get it in good, then I'm not going to be results oriented; because it's the right play, I want that call/action/etc. all day long. Example: my AK vs AX. If I put it in there and they call with a weaker A than mine, I NEVER get upset that they hit their 3 outer. I want that call all day long!! If I get it in there with AA and the call with a smaller pair and hit their 2 outer, I NEVER get upset as I want this call all day long. To fold AA preflop early in a tournament, without sufficient action before it gets to you, is just weak play. If anything, I want to know which city and B&M casino you play at, because I want your action all. day. long.

There's no way to justify folding aces in a tournament preflop, maaaybe just maybe if you're on the bubble and multiple people are going all in but definitely not in the early stages of a tournament.
When are you are guaranteed to win a hand of poker ? So in the early stages you're just playing the stone cold nuts ? When you hit the ace high flush on the flop you're also folding to a all in because someone could outdraw you with a full house ?
When you're playing a tournament where you fold aces because you're scared to risk your tournament life you should not even play this tournament. It's probably far out of your bank roll then.

I'm not a tournament player though, I just play cash games. But I have never seen a professional poker player folding aces preflop.

I folded KK as 4 people had gone all in before me and I figured one of them would have AA. Turned out to be the right decision too, but was hard to actually fold KK.

I fold 3/4 off in the BB once in a tournament that was about 10-12 players out from the money. There was a raise in front but I could have called. Flop comes 44T, river is s 4. There was 2 all-ins. Would have cashed.
