I was playing a HKD100 rebuy today (approx. 12USD). I had won the entry from a freeroll, so I only spend HKD200 for my rebuy and add-on (24 USD).

The final table had been full of ups and downs.

Blinds: 1000/2000

Button (me) : 8000
SB: 15000
BB: 15000

Everybody folds, UTG is a stack with one BB left. We are on the bubble. The fifth place pays HKD750 (96 USD) with some increase until first place pays HKD4000 (516 USD).

I shove A4s, I was thinking that the SB was hinting for me to steal by saying that he is scared of me, so I think he would be trying to pick off bluffs and I could get him to call with worse hands.

I shoved.

The fact that I had made a big cash the previous night (over 11k HKD which is over 1400 USD) made me want to win this rather than take last place money.

Good move?

Personally, I feel that I made the right choice for the win especially since I did get called with a worse hand, but on the other hand I just feel almost stupid for not taking the money.

A4 is a reasonable hand to shove with there. You could have shoved with worse. All you had to go through were the blinds. I would have probably folded and waited for a better hand as you still had time to get better hands before you had to shove. But A4 certainly is the favorite against 2 random cards. I just like stronger odds on my side like my ace to be with a 9 or better or king-ten+ or most pairs.

With only 4 big blinds left, this isn't a bad shove. The blinds have to pick up a hand here in order to call off half their stack so it makes sense to shove with any ace in this spot. I'm not sure you have the luxury of waiting for another hand here anyway.

I'm shoving pretty wide here in this spot and a suited Ace is in the top 1/3 of my shoving range. And in the BB I'm calling with almost as large of a range at this point, in the SB my range is narrower and I'm not calling but shoving AI to try and keep it heads-up.

Somewhat payout structure dependent, but 99% of the time this is a standard shove.
