I am doing FT, Satty'd into that first and when Stars ran theirs last fall Full tilt didnt jump in last min to compete. Sleezy of stars imo.
I do like stars, just think desperate move.

I have more respect for Full Tilt because when they offer prizes they actually put the money on the table. poker stars is great but to beat 60 000 people in wednesdays $1000 freerolls and then only get payed $30 is lame.
And Full Tilt has a first place prize of $500 in their 5pts tourneys that they are running and you only reall have to beat about 6000 people because half the people arent even there. 200 pts = 1 Dollar. 5pts = 2.5 cents.

When Poker stars can offer a first place of $500 for 2.5 cents then they can compete against Full Tilt in prize money.

Looks like FullTilt increased the maximum entrants recently - probably due to PS? Now the max is 50,000 with about 35,000 of which 80 or so are the red pros. As far as I could tell, PS doesn't have maximum entrants listed - thought they listed out the max in the previous record breaker last year? Hmm, well I'm registered for the FT one at least.

Typical worthless PS crap. Giving out 1000 seats at a time from freerolls is insane, anyone playing should just go all in until they either get knocked out or get to 15,000 chips. Then sit out until the rest of the sat players exit and maybe try to play against the rest.

Guinness needs to create some rules for this category. For one thing, all entrants to the record attempt should have to pay an entry fee. A reasonable entry fee, otherwise you'd see PS with a .01 tournament. Maybe make it $5 minimum.

Plus the site involved should have to post some specific overlay percentage, with the PS one they could have 100k people sign up so it won't cost them anything in the way of promotions.

When a site offers a $250,000 overlay, that's incentive. When it's PS, it's always going to be garbage.

The FT one was always listed as 50,000 entrants. That's partly because when you try to break a record Guiness won't let you just do 35,001, you have to beat the old record by a certain percentage.

Didn't realize that the FT one was 50,000 from the start. My friend told me thought that the max entrants had increased since he first checked. That's what I get for listening to someone who rarely plays online!

A min raise? I'd say you have to go 2.5x at least!:D

I wish they competed by lowering the rake and seeing how low each site would go. But it may be fun to see which site server crashes from trying run a tourney this big on the highest traffic day for online poker.

I'm in, but this thing is going to take forever if you last to the end. I think I'll go for broke early to see if I can get a lot of chips or bust right away.

If you last to the end and win thousands, I'd say the ROI is worth it. And for most people that's going to be more than what they would earn at a day job anyway :p

It's called marketing

It might be Marketing but surely they cant take it away from FT without there being some rules put in place.

For instance poker stars can only hold the record for being the biggest tourney at $100 000 (cheap skates).

And Full Tilt can hold the record for biggest tourney with a real prize pool at $500 000 (BIG DAWGS).

I think the record should be given to Full Tilt for actually putting this together... Not just slap a quick tourney together with a smaller entry fee and 1 fifth of the prize pool.

The record is for 'Biggest Online Poker Tournament', not, 'The Tournament That Has The Best All Round Setup', and Stars will make FT look foolish, regardless of the buyin/prizepool. It's just a bit of friendly competition. Stars has done pretty well with this actually. Plus, you just know FT will fail on some level with so many players in one tournament

I am in both of them. Was just planning to play the FT one, but then I played a sat on PS.
What you dont want to do is to play for 20hrs and finnish 154th for $21.

Im gonna guess that you're a poker stars fan hey Geof. We each have our own favourite sites I guess.

I prefer FT because I dont have to beat 155 000 donkeys for a dollar.

For example I just finished 531 in the $1000 freeroll. I beat 64 469 people and made a whopping 40 cents. Thanks poker stars maybe I will buy a stck of gum.

And if you finished 531st in a FT freeroll what do you get ? The big donut, $0, nothing, nada. pokerstars pays out more players.

Its all about preference and I hate (yes hate) the new look at FT, especially the cards. Looks like 80s video game cards.

And for all those who think the 50,000+ field for the $1 tourney is just a lottery, well, someone has to win it and some one will. And I think the odds will be better than the 1 in 14 million the lottery gives you.

It's not about who I'm a fan of. Yes I play at Stars but that's not the point. In terms of marketing, Stars has pulled the rug from under FT's feet. Stars will get more runners in it's event. That's a certainty, simply because of the volume of players that Stars gets

Idc who gets it tbh. It makes no difference to me. But Stars saw what FT was trying to do and trumped it. Not through prize pool size, but because they're going to be officially the 'biggest site'. Do you think a fish, just starting in online poker who sees this and thinks what the comparative prize pools were? No they see, 'Wow, Stars had like 50k people in this tourney, this is the site I can see most about right in front of my nose, I think I'll play there'.

I also Dont like the some of the new functions at FT... My last hand function doesnt work. And as for coming 531 ive made about 6 dollars so far coming under 900 people at FT in their 5pts tourney (but its not a freeroll it actually cost 2.5 cents).

I dont think it really matters who gets the world record because everybody wins... Donald Trump would say that the publicity is good for both sites... I play on both and I'm sure many others do as well. They both win.

But again I prefer FT. I cant explain why: I Just Do. Its like two international football teams playing and I choose the underdog.

Good Luck in both everybody. And may the best and luckiest player win...
