Update:

Changes to how rake is calculated and rake caps across stakes have now been cancelled due to player feedback. The change to the 'weighted contributed' system remains. Below is a more detailed explanation from our VIP Club manager.

As a direct result of player input, we are cancelling the planned rake changes that were to be implemented in early January 2012. We will still use the incremental method to calculate rake instead of true percentage rake. Rake caps and percentages will remain exactly as they are today.

I would like to add a few comments:

The current rake at PokerStars is the lowest by far among all major poker sites.

We are confident that the planned rake changes would have resulted in a further overall decrease in ring game rake site wide, and a decrease for a majority of players.

There has been much inaccurate information spread about the impact of the changes. As an example, the changes would not have resulted in a 50% increase in rake for 5-handed play. While there would have been an increase in average rake for 5-handed play at NL tables with stakes of $0.25/$0.50 and higher, it would be far less than 50% (for stakes up to $0.10/$0.25 there was either no change or reduction in caps for 5-handed play). Most hands do not reach the cap and thus would not be affected. The rake for many hands dealt to 5 players would actually be lower at many stakes due to the lower rake percentage (4.5% reduced from 5%). If players review rake at other online poker rooms, they will discover that it is the standard for the rake caps to be the same when 5 or more players are dealt into a hand. PokerStars has been the one notable exception to this system.

In summary we still believe that the proposed rake system taken as a whole would result in a more balanced and fair rake system for players. However, given that players have responded so negatively to this change, which also has a cost to PokerStars due to the reduced rake, we felt that the best course of action is to cancel the change.

The change to the Weighted Contributed method of awarding VPPs will remain as announced.

Hey Dylan.
The Pokerstars hotkey thing is really good, I like using it. However it doesn't allow me to type using any numbers I assign for bet sizes across my whole computer while the HK settings are active. I know this is to stop incorrect bets when the window pops up, but it's really annoying when writing notes and stuff. Any chance you could pass this along? (Maybe an update where ALT + Num. will let it type in the number you want)
Thanks :)

Thanks for the feedback on the new Hotkey additions. I've passed along your suggestion to the software team.

Hi , this is Alex, new member at cards chat, first of all would like to wish everyone a mery christmas and a happy new year.
i had some questions regarding SupernovaElite 2012.

i have a plan to achieve SNE in 2012 and my target is 1,000,000 vpps, i have a small bank roll 1000USD, and i can spend playing poker fulltime , like 8 hours a day 5 to 6 days a week.
the games which im playing the moment is sng's fifty/50 stakes 3.5 and 7 dollar and limit holdem 0.25-0.50 to 0.50-1.0,
i guess my qustions are how many VPP can i average if i 24 table both games like 4 hours of sng s and 4 hours od cash game.?
is this limit enough to manage to get 1 million vpp by december 2012?
i will appreciate any help i can get on these questions , and if there is anybody who has achieved a million vpp in a year to give some info about it.

regards/Alex

Hi Alex,

Essentially, SNE at those stakes is not very realistic, even putting in those consistent hours. If I had to estimate a number given the information you provided, I would say you would be somewhere around 400,000 VPPs in a calendar year, but that would vary depending on your style of play in Ring Games.

If you reached 400k VPPs, you would be earning over $30,000 in rewards. The precise number depends on what VIP Status you'd be starting from and how you choose to spend your FPPs.

I suggest you try out our new VIP Calculator which can give you a better idea of the requirements to reach different Milestones.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

I never realized before a few days ago that you can actually use different colours for colour-coding players than just the ones supplied.
I've added in a few more & am wondering > Do you know how many you can use on there/how many it will support (Note Labels)?

If you purchase a Tournament ticket in the VIP Store, can you trade it back in for VPP's (to buy different tickets)?
My friend went & bought some Tournament Tickets & one of them is for the Bigger$33 but they didn't realize that it starts at 3am here (PT) where we live. Is it possible for them to trade it back in for VPP in the VIP Store & buy say a Bigger$22 & SundayStorm instead?

i meant 'FPP' (not VPP)

I'm guessing you can't exchange the Tourney Ticket once you've purchased it... sigh.

Has Pokerstars lost their collective minds?
Or has some damn fool deliberately shot Pokerstars (and regular micro tournament players ) in the foot by removing the guarantees from the Tournament - All lobby and actual tournament lobby?
I, like many other players play tournament poker only and I know there is more money for Pokerstars through rake instead of juice but this just smacks of being money hungry and is the perfect way to kill off player participation in tournements and therefore Pokerstars.
My first tournament of the day is usually the $2.75 (7.5k guarantee) but with the guarantee removed there are only 80 players signed up to it instead of the usual 1500.
The "BIG" tourneys numbers are way down also without the guarantee shown in the lobby/s.
Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb.
I could understand Pokerstars being concerned if they were losing money on these tourneys but they were almost always way over subscribed and the guarantee always covered.

NYE and guarentees probably wouldn't have been met, I think it's highly likely that it's only tonight/maybe tomorrow guarentees will have been removed.

Yea, PS has not received any - or not much - grief here.

But, Dylan, you (as well as Steve) know what the sentiment is like. And moves like this are only fuel on the fire...

I just dont get it.

And I am not playing stars for now. I am a bit unhappy.

iPoker removed their guarantees on Christmas Eve day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, today & likely tomorrow (& the $200K is only the $100K guar. this week (again!)).

Guys... come on. Think about it ;) (new year's eve.... guess what, ZERO guar. on some of the other sites). Looks like Star's guar.'s even on NewYear's Day are big :)

I'll bring this up with the software team this week to see if they have an answer for you.

That's a good question - while I suspect that once you purchase a ticket you are required to use it, I've put in a request to see if you have any other options or if there's some leeway. I'll confirm soon.

The Tournament guarantees should already be back to their normal levels. The change was because of New Year's Eve landing on a Saturday which has a significant impact on participation.

Update:
Email support@pokerstars.com and they can refund you the ticket and you can buy something that doesn't require an all-nighter :). If for some reason there's an issue you can email me personally at vip_canada@pokerstars.com.

We've extended invitations to members of the poker community in the hopes that this can happen by the end of the month.

How do you do that?
I looked at the labels after seeing this, but can't see any way of adding extra colors.

Regarding the coloured notes - I don't see why you couldn't add as many colours as you choose.

Let me know if you run into any problems.

I seem to be only able to use '12' colours in total. Doesn't give me the option to add any more after that.
