You know what guys, I've just realized this is a potential stroke of absolute brilliance by
pokerstars. At the least it's a step in a very right direction.
I think the goal in
online poker right now is to get it more "social", and thus bring more casual fishy players in. The image right now that the term "internet poker player" conjures up is of basement dwellers multi-tabling with HUDs, pokerstove, and a 3-liter bottle of Mountain Dew by the table. These are also the types you don't really want to have be at a table with, as generally your edge will be neutralized as compared to some fish just hopping online for poops and giggles.
Think of all the swarms of fish that are playing poker on Facebook / Zynga / other social networking places.
A
poker site that would take a marketing and development initiative towards making a place a more social/friendly poker venue would have the potential to bring in just a crap TON of casual-type players offering incredibly soft competition.
Imagine if Zynga suddenly offered a
real money client? Or if they partnered up with Full Tilt and did cross-promotion? Or if one of the major
poker sites developed a Facebook feed that showed updates of their progress on people's walls and news feeds like Zynga does?
