I don't know what Playnow is like currently, but I briefly tried it in 2011 when they had a tourney called "Canucks for a buck" where if you won the tourney (entry was $1) you got the first place money and 2 Vancouver Canucks playoff tickets.
Traffic was almost non existent. I played the tourney 4 times and finally won it and got 2 lower bowl tickets for Game 1 of the 3rd round (face value was $240 each and I sold them for considerably more) and about $19 in prize money.. The field for that tourney was just 67 players.
I haven't even checked it out since then.

..........Actually , i have now joined the government run poker site Playnow. I have not seen any chat in french. I have always found a game to play, whether cash ,tournament , or sit n go. The site goes 24/7 and i have found that it is a lot easier to navigate than Pokerstars ,which is continually adding new components to the point that in the last 2 years it has become cumbersome and top heavy. It actually now takes longer to get to your game on Pokerstars or to find something. I give Playnow a thumbs up.

I had no knowledge of this site, most likely due to no availability to Ontario residents. So, I looked at the homepage and it holds a striking resemblance to the OLG page(Ontario Lottery and Gaming) minus the Poker aspect. Makes me wonder if poker will be offered with OLG. Good luck to both of you!

We (USA) Americans want the government to ONLY protect consumers. I am a far left (socialist left) minimum capitalist (meaning I fear capitalism more than I fear the government) and I don't want to see the government running poker. I much prefer that capitalists run the game with government making sure they are not ripping me off.

.........You are absolutely wrong, no poker winnings are taxed in canada. Not live winnings , not online winnings. You are dead wrong.

........You think ???? Give me some facts. I have been averaging a $10,000 profit each year for the last 7 years playing live at the local government run casinos. There are no taxes paid on poker winnings.

....You should fear the government at the same level you fear capitalism. Governments take your money even before you can spend it at some crooked capitalist enterprise.

.............Well you should check it out again. I consider Playnow more secure than any pokersite such as pokerstars , Bovada , Full Tilt , UB , etc. Even Pokerstars is now all about greed , with their constant promotion of poker games that have less to do with playing poker and more to do with poker themed games of chance. Pokerstars revenue is down for the first quarter this year and it will continue to drop as the pure poker , properly run government sites will eat up a bigger portion of Pokerstars serrious , and serious recreational players.

Govt. run poker sites

sorry not translated,
when you have gambling problems
.......It is my belief that anyone with a so called gambling problem has deeper and darker problems , probably many deep dark problems. The government run poker site has Gambling Help posted all over their site and i am willing to bet that a very small % of players have even used the Help line. Probably no one .

Would never join - EVER!

I would not join anything run by the government here in Canada (or anywhere else for that matter) - when they get their hands on things, it tends to end up being a bad scene - don't want to risk it!
I would guess they tie your account info into revenue Canada so they can get more people to audit and help recover some of the monies they are loosing at online poker... my guess anyway!

......At our local government run casino, they record your personal info along with drivers license info every time you cash. I have yet to see anything show up on my yearly income taxes and i have been cashing for over a decade. What you state is just a fallacy.

In Canada there are no taxes on gambling wins. Unless you are a poker pro then it is not considered gambling and you have to pay taxes.

I think that france and the USA are 2 screwed up countries , with way less freedoms than they both claim. Canada is much more progressive than these 2 supposed flagships of democracy. Canadians will always have the right to play poker anywhere and will never ban poker as in the USA because of the religious right. Not much difference between the USA and Saudi Arabia when it comes to online poker. Also in canada poker winnings and lottery winnings are not taxed as in the USA and France. What you win is what you keep. The USA and France are still living in their revolutionary modes.

Pretty sure if he read (or could comprehend) any of your posts he'd never copy one & attach it to his name. (I mean you do fold Aces pre right? in tournament poker... when you're close to the bubble, LoL)

PlayNow is a joke of a site. To suggest it is good is laughable.

.... I have found it to be more of a pure poker site than Pokerstars . Pokerstars has become more and more about luck games than pure poker. Pokerstars is also less profitable.

Poker, ran by the government. This sounds like an absolutely terrible idea. I feel like they are probably going to find a way to rig it to the odds of the lottery and they would find a y to takean even higher rake and when you complain...believe me they will show you jus how muh they care

Maybe is the only way out when the government wants to control the tax revenue from this activities.
Government run poker sites are better than No on line poker sites at all.;)
