Non-USA Network Microgaming has Anonymous 'Cash' (only) Tables as well. (Although PokerTracker has a HUD for it)

Some players post there forum name here in the thread for the game. I don't think that is wise and I don't think the forum should allow it.
Why?
It's only to a player's own disadvantage to post their name/# (if other's have some history with them).
At least if they posted their player name in forum on game thread it'd help to eliminate the potential for pw thieves getting into the game. (also, some of the chat (going back to even the first games, not being specific here) with the 'anonymous' thing has been unlike typical CC games). Seems some take advantage of the anonymity in a negative way. Regulating the posting sn's/#'s I'm sure would be a huge pain in the ass though (& doubt there's any desire for it).

Personally I think (< know) it would make the games better because I think anonymous poker is pretty mickey mouse (takes away from the main aspect of 'poker' imo > exploiting other's tendancies & weaknesses). Can obviously see the appeal to some (I would assume the weaker players in this case). Another reason I think it would make the games much better is just by going from experience in other CC games (on other sites). Alot of members like to play in them for the 'social aspect' (< most of that is lost with the anonymous feature). I know I also like to partake in a bit of 'metagame' stuff with some of the regulars (ie. like 4-betting light vs. my buddy JoeShowdown with 97s, but then pricing myself in to call the 5bai & sucking out vs. KK (or whatever)). Makes for a wayyyy funner game imo (& a wayyyyy better game, one that involves more skill).

You make too many assumptions from a far too limited world view. Why do you think "weaker" players would prefer an anonymous format? Because they don't use poker tracking software? Or because they aren't paying attention to who they are playing, but just playing their own 2 hole cards? It's not so cut and dry. Players who only play 1 table at a time and like to play MTTs might prefer the anonymous format, and that doesn't make them weak.

I actually don't really like the anonymous function, however I don't mind it too much since I am primarily a live tourney player and I only dink around online occasionally, usually play 1 tourney and make notes on player numbers much the same way I would in a live tourney.

I think it would be the perfect set up for me if I could somehow have my personally typed notes follow that player from game to game, even if they have a new number. Eliminates the edge from poker tracking software, but allows me to use my own personal history with that player, in my own "filter" and words... Is there a reason the software can't be set up that way? Would poker tracking software still be able to track those players if their number changed each time?

just my humble opinion

I'm pretty loyal to Bovada for longer than they've been bovada. They always payout on time, customer service is good, and I can almost always find action. But does anyone honestly like the feature of random opponents? You can't build any opponent history. You can't take player notes. You can't tell if there is collusion going on. Pointless.

like you i am loyal to them but only play mtt . simply dont trust playing live with their system:(

I wish you were locked into a screenname for 24 hours or something.

So frustrating to know the same guy might be on 2-3 of my tables but I can't use reads from other tables to strategize.

I think it's really stupid. You want online poker to approach the real thing as much as possible and the anonymous crap takes it in the other direction. Stupid.

Thank you for spending probably 45 mins to type out a rant telling me I'm not good. What a guy. Ha.

Not sure what hand you're talking about but most hands I've posted are bc I thought I played them wrong.

Thats why I came here. To learn. Apparantely you're here to berate ppl. At the end of the day I'll have friends and you will still be an asshole.

well, i'm not thrilled with anonymous tables, but i don't think i have been cheated, yet. i will continue to play there as i have done pretty good so far, but i am not a pro and only play for recreation. if any botting, collusion, or other questionable acts occur, i believe i would notice it before i lost a million. and would leave the table, simple remedy.

I don't really mind, you still know which player did what at the table, even if their names aren't there.

I really like Bovada, even though I hated the anonymous thing at first, bt it works both ways. At other sites, espeacially when I have my hud up, I'm over thinking it and wondering "are they 3-betting just because my 3 bet call is a little low?". With that said, I really think they should allow you to take notes on the person and if you play them again the notes should pop back up. I don't like that I could take notes on someone, them quit the next hand, and then I lose that information forever.

I think they should just go to unlimited name changes instead. Log out/log in required to change your name.

It would make the colluders playing multiple tables easier to spot.

And for the guys saying Bovada catches the colluders/cheaters on their own: LOL @ you

pokerstars has 10 times the qualified security staff and they still usually need input from players and dataminers to bust rings of colluders and cheaters. (Google for proof)

They should just bring the names back altogether, I actually really wish that they would.

I'm actually changing my answer on this topic.

I now HATE the anonymous function. And as soon as I clear my $100 refer a friend bonus (which will take me like 3 months probably) then I'm withdrawing completely and only playing the cardschat freerolls on Bovada.

there are such complete idiots on the site....which is great....except....you have no idea when you're sitting at a table with them until it is too late sometimes..even if you've potentially faced that same idiot a thousand times before and could have avoided the inevitable if you only had a hint of your history to help you out.

i used to do much better on the site because I painstakingly typed notes on each player. now it just seems so pointless because sometimes I barely finish typing notes on some donkey before they're gone. Exercize in futility is a phrase that comes to mind.

As a result, the only solid strategy that I have come up with is to play tight ABC poker which is just not a ton of fun to play your own 2 cards just like a robot, and you can't really "play the player" much at all...

It makes for more fish and the fish play worse, this is by far the most fish us site. That means I actually like it, I used to hate it.

I don't use tracking , so I like the concept very much . As long as the sites can keep a handle on collusion I would prefer this method on all poker sites. I wish they could do this for Cash Games and maybe have our names for MTTS , just a thought!

I get this. I used to feel the same way. And i think if you played for a living, or even to supplement your income it would make playing on Bovada very attractive.

for a player like me, I play for fun and for a challenge and to increase my poker skills over time. I only use online poker to sharpen my skills for when I play in live tourneys.

So, for my goals Bovada is totally pointless. Grinding out tight ABC poker vs. the aggregate tendencies of a bunch of fish is not really making me a better poker player, I don't think. Especially as I'm going up in stakes in live and playing wsop, WPT and DPT events where the players are increasingly tough and sophisticated...I find bovada to be like playing solitaire on my phone...a fine way to pass the time when I have nothing better to do...but not really meaningful to developing my game..

Bovada/bodog is great for lazy players like me. All that note taking and sniffer checking is too much work and perhaps only a slight bit of help in most cases.

People bluff sometimes and stats are overrated IMO.

Hard to tell if collusion at most sites unless you play millions of hands and look for patterns. Again, lotta work and can you believe the conspiracy threads?

What I like about anonymous players on Bovada is the fact that after you play a tournament, all cards are revealed to you for that tourney. So if you wonder whether someone had you beat or was bluffing, you can know once the tourney is done. It is player anonymity that allows this.

This is one of the most unique (and controversial) features of Bovada play.

I actually really love Bovada simply for the reason of anonymity. Psychologically, it allows me to loosen up and play less NITty. I always seem to do a lot better on Bovada.
