Will poker finally get the status Sport?

How about chess? Chess games is already a sport and you are also sitting and moving a piece of wood/glass. If chess was able to recognize as a sport I personally think poker should also be a sport.

Thats like saying football cup knockout matches are sport, but league fixtures are not.

dont think so. If it wasnt done till nowadays. The popularity of poker goes down nowadays. It was a chance to make it sport 5-7 years ago but not now

Chess is a brain game as well, but it is considered as a sport.
To my mind, poker is not a sport since luck and chance plays a decent role in winning.

I belive there is to much variance in poker for it to ever be considered a sport. There are dozens of different styles and stakes so I don't belive it can be narrowed down enough such as chess where u have one main style of game to be a sport.

I guess if bowling is still considered a sport. I do struggle with calling it a sport if i can play for 8-10 hrs while not moving from a chair. Maybe we should just call it what it is, a game of skill with a side of variance to test our commitment.

I think it will be another decade or two before games of the mind start becoming "sports". It might never become a sport because it is kind of like betting, and I wouldn't consider betting on horse races to be a sport, even if "horse race betting champions" exist.

Here is the definition of sport: an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Looking at poker, i dont see the physical exertion required to call poker a sport. I agree that there is skill involved. Also in sports, there is a lot of chance involved. When someone shoots a basketball there is a chance that it will go in and a chance they will miss the shot so there is an element of chance in sports. Also the competition of entertainment is there and that is why people watch poker on television. The only aspect to me is that there is no real physical exertion.

Poker is not yet ready to become an Olympic sport, the property still before chess would become. Although the popularity of poker, and has a larger number of amateurs and professionals.

Any type of competitions, there the luck play a big role, can't be a sport. As a sportsman, you must be stronger, faster, higher, etc., but not @more lucky@ than others. Of course, you must be good skill in poker for being in top, but until the luck play big role here, it's never be sport.

Well, I think a Sport have to meet some requirements. I dont think that it should become a sport, because Poker is nothing compared to Football or Basketball or anything related about those sports.
