Why would it be bad for pokerstars to be owning FTP?

This in effect is the best possible outcome, much better than any other company. Pokerstars are trusted and the only site that I think most trust with their funds, especially since post black friday.

People are much more likely to flood back to FTP if pokerstars do own it, anyone else and I bet the player pool would be much less.

Win/win for pokerstars and win/win for poker players too.

There are plenty of legit companies that could take it over, with just as much security. Party/Paddy power/Ladbrooks off the top of my head.

Look, short term this is great news, long term its a little more bleak, but who knows, maybe things will be great. Legal online poker in the US with no deposit/withdrawal restrictions would be simply awesome for anyone that takes poker in any way seriously.

Does UIGEA matter for state online poker?

Wow.

Too bad we won't be able to play. :(

None of these actions can overturn the UIGEA and I don't see Holder saying "We'll just look the other way" or banks taking the chance.

This is pretty hopeful though no? From december last year. All the news sites are saying it means states will do poker on their own...even if UIGEA stay I think:

UIGEA already ruled as not dealing with poker, only casino/sports betting I thought

Very good article from the Wall Street Journal:

To read without subscribing go to Google news:

http://news.google.com/

Paste in the headline: PokerStars In Talks To Buy full tilt poker

Read the complete article from the link that comes up.

PS has been in Dublin the last few days doing due diligence.

As much as we USA'ers would love to agree, we realize that pragmatically, it ain't gonna happen like that.

Impossible in the US with so many 'special interests' involved.

What we can reasonably expect, IMHO, is a highly regulated system where players are known to all, along with their nicks on the sites, and there are too many deposit restrictions, and keen oversite by the IRS on withdrawals. Ugly thing seems to be we will have to accept these draconian overlords and overlaws in order to participate.

The greedy political bastards here will only vote for legitimization if they believe it is a cash cow that will solve all social ills.

And I so want to be wrong........ :(

That was the Wire Act not the UIGEA... and it was sports betting only. But it does open the door a crack for states to allow internet poker.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/nathanv...t-of-justice-flip-flops-on-internet-gambling/
In a letter sent on Friday to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich said: “in states that ban various forms of gambling–including Internet poker–the Department will be able to investigate and prosecute those gambling businesses under the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and other sections of the criminal code.”

But you are probably not. Between greed, those that believe they need to protect people from themselves and the religious fanatics that only believe in their own freedom but not the rights of others, it will be an uphill battle.

Can they buy AP/UB too?

:D If only....

If PS buy FT ,
I hope they don't change the FT software platform.
In fact, I hope they change the PS software to the FT interface.
That would be great.
I hope the FT academy is still available too.
Here's hoping.
