It's a shame that these " Puritan" zealots have disgraced American freedom by banning online poker in USA. I feel bad for my neighbours.

Puritan zealots have a right to take part in the political process, which is what they did. If we disagree, it's up to us to make our voices heard.

Cheers!

The UEGIA was a last minute attachment to a Ports Security Bill . It was never discussed prior to becoming that attachment. BTW BOTH of the Politicians who authored that bill were thrown out of office at the first opportunity.

True, but it doesn't change the fact that both Leash and Frist jammed the bill through because they were pandering to the religious right, hoping to earn their votes. Frist, in particular, wanted to run for President. We can take some comfort in knowing that both men as a result of this monumental miscalculation ended up in the political dust bin.

That said, religious zealots have a right to push their agenda. We have a right - perhaps even an obligation - to oppose them.

Cheers!

That part is actually not true

UIGEA started out as a bill from James Leach (HR4411 2005) and passed the house on a bipartisan basis as a stand alone bill. It was then sent to the senate and was eventually blended in to the SAFE Port Act

I really dont know how u guys dont get it, politicians are in the money making business, they always look to find new source of tax revenue, and what was at first, greed from casinos to push for this bill that brought black Friday, and put an end to online poker in the US, now they want to see how much are willing online poker rooms to pay, to get back the US market, they know it was a good deal from start, i know for sure that online poker will get back in the USA, its a big market and there are a lot of people who want to play online, its only a matter of time, b4 government and online rooms agree on the monthly or yearly fee they have to put out to the US government, its the same thing around the world, greedy politicians, who abuse the law to make a buck, why are u surprised :D

I read somewhere that license fees are $5 million the first year and $100k per year after that. Sounds like extortion to obtain a license.

The first time license fees are mostly a deposit on future tax payments, so they are seemingly inflated. But they do have a purpose, which is to limit who can enter the market. In other words, you have to have some deep pockets of start up cash to get into the game. These high entry fees are pushed for by the big operators, to keep the smaller outfits on the rail.

With several States/Countries ring fencing their territory, everyone is learning new things here. Ring fencing in New Jersey has shown that the market is not as big as some would have the politicians believe. Same with france, same with Nevada.

I have always thought a better approach to solving our problem would have been a carve out from the UEGIA which is the major reason we in the US have no international player pool other that WPN, Carbon and maybe Bovada.

We all have to realize that what we want is only a fringe issue for all politicians. And this fringe issue has moral implications. We understand, they don't.

Probably, but a site like Stars, will find you and confiscate all your money.

The current version of the bill has upped this initial fee to $12.5mm, and no longer would it be prepayment of tax, but rather a stand alone fee. This of course has raised further objections, but they have to find a way to come up with the $60mm for the tracks and have something left over in order to sell it to two-thirds of the legislature

Because it's been so regulated you can only with limited players. 888 poker has been the most popular site in the area. I think they are they only legal operator at the area.

I played at a couple bitcoin poker sites online. A couple had bots but I guess some sites use bots because the activity is slow. I don't know how bots work but I guess it has a good and bad aspect to it.
