The biggest reason that when I used it to deposit, I didn't waste any time. Pretty soon time to buy.

I bought my BTC somewhere around $800 and sold it at $16k. Made some good spending money (I didn't have a ton of BTC). Anyway, I was under the impression that, outside of the crazy speculation that went on, the value of BTC was predictable. Isn't there some data somewhere that says it's supposed to be worth this much around this time? And not from an investment point of view.

I think it will bounce back up, and I'll regret not buying it.. again. Though that opinion of mine is just a blatant guess. I always want to buy some when it gets low like this, but never end up doing it. I wish I had bought a bunch when it was $1 or less per coin hah!

This the reason I quit playing at Carbon Poker, they went to strictly Bitcoin for payout and depositing. Might as well play the stock market.

I invested like $300 in bitcoin mining last year and reinvested all the rest. The curve has flatlined because they couldn't pay the electric bill to cool their mining equipment. Remember Bitconnect? It was all a big Ponzi scheme. The whole thing is a scam

bitcoin

lol, bitcoin, read: BIT-CON, is a con which consist of bits.
Created by CIA to enslave humanity. RFID chips will be soon implemented in human bodies and bitcoin used instead of real money, cashless society controlled by supercomputer owned by US government. Now, price manipulation is occurring to fool people and take money of them. Comparing online poker to bitcoin is good in terms of both being scams to steal money of people. However, bitcoin is also about control over humanity.

We can't be successful in poker if we can't handle the down swings, like bitcoin appears to be doing right now.

you are 100% right

Of course, if some virtual 'pseudo-asset' going from $0.01 to $20,000 in just 7 years, it must be scam. There are no things in this world which gain value so quickly, unless is a scam.
There is no such a thing like investing in bitcoin, it's just stupid gambling. The odds are much better in a casino on a roulette and payout is instant.

Investing is about future value of real asset, bitcoin is not any asset, just thin air, tmr can be gone and nobody will even remember after 1 year what it was.

I invested like $300 in bitcoin mining last year and reinvested all the rest. The curve has flatlined because they couldn't pay the electric bill to cool their mining equipment. Remember Bitconnect? It was all a big Ponzi scheme. The whole thing is a scam

The US stock market is down as well. I'm not saying that whole thing is a scam, but the concept does invite scammers to find ways to bilk people. So the bitcoin surge in late 2017 was the biggest bubble ever. It has burst and it will be a while before it comes back. If it ever does.

Bitcoin...

I never keep my poker bankroll in cryptocurrency state for any longer than it takes to buy-in to a tourney or get chips for a sit & go game so it makes no diff what the price of bitcoin is at this point. I am, however, buying some cryptocurrencies that are way down but have leveled off...but that's for another discussion.

I have faith Bitcoin will come back I have held onto mine not worried about it LOL. But I have moved some around move some to Litecoin. I was able to make a little bit of profit I moved it to Litecoin when it was lower and sold some when it got to $36 the other day so that was a lucky move LOL but the rest I just left in my Bitcoin and have faith it will come back again this year I think 2019 is going to be another better year for Bitcoin then 2018, got to have a little faith in that LOL:):)

The expectation of up and downs in Bitcoin value is a given. It's understanding the "why" that makes it a good investment vehicle. Without this volatility you might as well put your "non-Bitcoin money" into mutual funds.:driver:

Well I guess if crypto currency is a type of currency that's been accepted by businesses. Then the value of the currency itself foes down in the few minutes between when you bought some and when you used it to buy your chips. Do you still get the same amount of chips? Are the chips now worth less too? Or do you have to buy more crypto to make up the difference? I didntckboe! I never bought into crypto currency in the first place!

Poker and bitcoin in my opinion is not interconnected by anything. I can survive a fall in poker, but I don't like to lose a lot of money:(

My nephew told me that he wants to buy and hold cryptocurrency for his retirement plan....LOL...I hope he didn't.

Good luck !

Teach him to diversify. A sizable slice in crypto is probably wise for young investors. As with precious metals 10-15% is a good long term bet IMO.
