Card counting is very easy. Just add or minus.

The casino thought the actor is so dumb (he doesnt know about card counting).

Casino will allow games to continue when its plus edge and stop games if theyre underdog.

its not that hard ...you use a system of plus and minus values...more focus than smarts...that's why its easy to detect counters

It's very easy to learn and in theory it's also easy to use.

However, it takes a lot of skill, patience, practice and a well developed ability to multitask with ease (reasons a lot of people get spotted for it is their inability to multitask).

I can count and I can do it very well. I have used it on a multitude of occasions with 8 deck shoes and just like playing 16 tables for 8 hours straight like a lot of grinders do you can feel the mental toll it takes on you afterwards.

Anyone who thinks it's easy, I challenge you to try it for yourself.
Learn the basic card counting strategy, go to a casino where they don't have CSMs and attempt it. Between the bar girls asking you if you want a drink, the idiots coming in for a hand or 2, the speed of some of the dealers, sizing bets inconspicuously, etc., it becomes overwhelming to keep up at some points. However if you succeed over a big enough sample you will see the edge you have created for yourself.

In poker it's a lot easier to roughly figure out odds, equity, etc. because it's on a hand-to-hand basis, when you want to try and gain an edge in blackjack every move you make will be based on that running count you have in your head, the last hand is always more important than the next hand.

Good luck, let us know if you give it a try!

P.S. I also believe that counting cards is in no way cheating but casinos will do anything to maintain their edge.

Back before playing poker I use to play Blackjack, I counted cards, if I could do it, then smart is not part of the equation. It didn't work for me because I didn't have the guts to trust the system and increase my bet when the deck got "Heavy".

Blackjack is still the game with the best odds for the player against the Casino. Just using basic strategy cuts down the % for the house. It's not cheating or illegal to count cards, but the Casino can ask you to play a different game or to leave.

Sometimes Blackjack isn't the game with the best edge for the player, it's often argued that Craps actually has the lowest house edge and baccarat is often thrown in at times to have the lowest house edge. Depending on how well you know how to play each game coupled with the house rules for each at different casinos.

Also- why bother counting cards and spending the time learning to do it and putting it into effect and then not having the balls to act when the shoe gets hot? Just go throw some money down on the big wheel, maybe you would trust that.

Ben Affleck ejected from a casino in Las Vegas.

Hello friend;
I was reading news on a casino in las vegas that expelled Ben Affleck their blackjack tables.
Apparently Ben Affleck was too good a player and was making a lot and that was the reason he was asked to stop playing.
Now my question is, if we're losing also would say that we withdrew because it is impossible to win?
What you think?

The story proves it is not impossible to win. It is impossible to win and keep playing at the same joint when you do win. They make the rules and don't have to let you keep playing (and winning). I agree it is unfair, but...

i think it was more for the media hype. he can go anywhere else and play. but if the casino doesnt like you, they do have a right to refuse any player.

He can't really go 'anywhere else'.

Any casino that offers high rollers the high stakes bets on any game, likely uses the "Surveillance Information Network (SIN)". As soon as Affleck shows up at any casino willing to take $20k+ (per hand) bets, they will close the table and tell him to stop playing or leave.

You can bet every pit boss on the planet has been shown Affleck's 'most NOT-wanted' mug shot ... ;)

Sucks for him. But I'm sure he has made some good money from the casino's in the past using this method. Or at least I would hope so! Or maybe he has lost "his shirt" playing blackjack in the past, and wanted to try a new approach that would actually see him winning more often.. Who knows? He's got that "Batman" money now, so I'm sure he will be ok. And with the Justice League movie (which I'm sure will become a franchise, and make at least a couple sequels) he will have that much more loot. MBN As far as him being able to just play at another casino, as others have said, I'm sure word has spread and there will be many casinos refusing his business in the future.

The Organization were impressed that he can count in the first place.

They were amazed that someone so vain could actually play properly ... thats only reason he got caught. :hahaha:

I still find it unfair that not only let you play for wins.
Did discovered with other cheating?
Some authority should do something about it.

Maybe he just liked the challenge of being able to do it and win. Like keeping score in a game. As opposed to just doing for the money alone.

This is just amazing. A person with money counting cards to get an unfair advantage. Makes me think that Ivey and Affleck are more broke than they show and are hard up for money. Just is mind boggling to me that they could need money in such a way, they have to cheat.

I know I'm a little late to the party but just stumbled upon this (I need to spend more time in the News section)

Affleck and Ivey are so far from broke.. Also Affleck ended up leaving even because he was tipping casino staffers everything he won tipping with 1k chips ended up tipping hundreds of thousands of dollars

Also Affleck was using his chips to keep a true count I believe.. and he is very smart him and Matt Daemon went to a prestigious school together

The casinos want to "freeroll" you - you can lose but if you find (legal) ways to win, they ban you :(

That is right; casinos are businesses meant to make money for the owners and or stockholders....that is correct.

You always have the option of simply not gambling with them just as they can opt to not gamble with you.

See how that works?

I agree with this and I wouldn't mind it as much if we were allowed to gamble elsewhere but they and the government make it pretty difficult. =(

Iunno, I live in Illinois and it seems like casinos are popping up everywhere around here and other midwestern states.....

Obviously places were mostly working class folk/retirees will be gamblonggg it up will solve my states multibillion dollar pension/budget shortfall.

Lotteries, online gambling (admittedly grey market)....fantasy football pools.....

I see gambling everywhere where I live.

Card counting has always interested me but I'd probably get burned out trying to learn it properly.

I mean homegames and online Even though online isn't illegal it certainly isn't easy.. (IDK if other online gambling outside of poker is allowed or not)

also my state (Iowa) voted to have another casino put in and the people voted yes but the state said no

Priceless! :D
I'm curious though, if it was one of us (not a celeb) who got caught doing it, would they not ban us for life rather than just banning us from playing blackjack?
