Hi I’ve been playing poker for about 1year properly with real money on PokerStars (not consistently) My first spell lasted about 3months were i worked from $10 to $150. Which unfortunately I lost as I decided to go on blackjack and lost it all lol. So I was a bit annoyed but I knew my poker wasn’t the problem it was me going on blackjack like and idiot. From then on I took a break and came back. I deposited $20 and worked it up but just got bored in the end of playing small stakes so I ended up losing that but again it was only a small deposit so I wasn’t that bothered so then I deposited again another $20 and had a couple of bad beats and just really couldn’t be ars*d so I kept tilting and going all in with nothing. 😒 Should I deposit more so I care more about losing my money?? I feel like that’s the problem. Any advice on this would be much help and any advice overall on my poker would be fantastic.

Cheers, George.

Poker, despite being a game that makes money when there is consistency, depending on the situation, is tricky. So when I said I was increasing the limits or even transferred to blackjack, it was an obscure opportunity for the game to fail you. In this context, I recommend that you keep a low buy-in and do not transfer to gambling, from experience I know that this is a path of no return.

One of the main reasons that someone very quickly becomes a professional and successful poker player, and someone lingers for a long time in the amateur league, is the ability to overcome long lines of bad luck, the so-called downstrikes. If someone thinks that he is the smartest, plays poker best of all, and his black streak of bad luck does not touch, he will not only be deeply mistaken, but will fly by all his money faster than others. Bad luck catches up with even the most experienced and knowledgeable players, because this is the nature of poker. Therefore, it is better not to deny the problem, but to be prepared for it.

As a player, I should advise you to make a new deposit and continue to believe that you are playing well, but you are out of luck!

My advice as a friend, even if I don't know you, first study and learn, then play.

GL ;)

Hi George and welcome to CardsChat,

I hope that you are well.

Don't be disheartened. I am sure that a large percentage of us have blown a bankroll or two ;)

Reading between the lines it seems to me that you get bored quickly or become impatient. Hence, the switch to blackjack or the all-in tilt.

Freerolls will help you build up patience and prepare you for long stretches of focus. The trouble is they are extremely tedious and the reward is almost a disincentive! It can feel futile playing for hours when a top 10 finish wins you $1.

I'm not sure if depositing more money is the answer because invariably you will just play higher stakes - if you experience the same boredom at higher stakes your losses will be much greater!

Perhaps try looking into different formats that will hold your attention. PKO tournaments keep you interested throughout because of the bounty per head. Sit&Go games have a clear end in sight because they are limited to 8 or so players. CardsChat have a great Sit&Go study course.

As others have mentioned, learning about bankroll management will help you plan how to move up in stakes.

Lastly, this is a good (poker related) article which might help you stay away from blackjack:

Good luck on your journey! :)

Deposits are not the main problem. You follow the rules of all poker rooms - deposit, lose, deposit again and lose again. The desire to win back the invested funds will play a cruel joke on you.
It's time to stop and think about it. Forget about losing at blackjack and $ 150. You can't catch them. You need to start from scratch and learn how to enjoy poker.

Personally I would just make the deposit and start playing. The thing you really need to do whether you like it or not is bankroll management. If it takes putting more cash to play high buy in games then do it but whatever you decide you must use proper bankroll management.

Like most reply’s have been, I agree with bankroll management
Also find the games you’re best at,
(I do good in tourneys but seem to lose at the cash tables)
9 man games where 1in 3 win are great for good odds and not too much time invested.
You need a lot of patience in this game and to be able to avoid going on tilt when bad beats happen
Good luck

Hey.
I played for a very long time without a deposit and spent a lot of time creating my initial bankroll. In my opinion, after the experience, the best option is to make a regular deposit of $ 200 +, then, in addition to the bankroll, you are also responsible for your game and save time (which is 1-2 years. Or even more). And if you make deposits in the amount of 5-20 dollars, these are actions leading to the loss of these deposits due to a long-term increase and the possibility of losing this money in other casino games.
But this advice is only valid if you have the necessary knowledge and experience for a positive poker game.
Best decision is to play with 100+ buy-ins. To avoid lose streaks and some other sh*t. Competent player on microlimits will play with good ROI just avoiding simple mistakes and controlling bankroll.:)

I have a 20 dollar deposit limit on pokerstars and 60 dollar one on ggpoker, so all I can lose is 80 dollars a month. That means of course that I mostly play small stakes, but I am okay with that. I play just for fun, not for money.

Perhaps you will play more and more risky if you deposit and have bad beats and even if you have money. So I think that you can play better with less deposits with a sense of tension.

Agree with other comments - don't think money but only quality of your play. Try to play every hand well - folding junk is good play, folding something like a mid pair to a 3 or 4 bet is a good play, getting an opponent all in when you have a monster is good play even if they suck out on you. Try to stay on this even thinking - but is tough to do for sure.

Always look for bonus

Look for the best bonus or match bonus when making deposits
