of course everyone avoids public places and protects themselves by staying at home. for poker lovers this is one more reason to play online.

I think this virus hysteria will bring more players on the tables. It's boring to stay at home...

Obviously there will be an increase in online play with so many events and poker rooms being postponed or temporarily closed. Casino grinders will turn into online grinders.

Also as some have noted above, there are huge numbers at a loose end with most professional sports being temporarily halted- they could look to poker instead of sports betting.

The interesting thing will be when the virus ebbs - which could take longer than people think. Many experts now cite the idea of a potential second wave come fall/winter. That will mean many will be conditioned to playing online for months and it will be very interesting to see how fast people switch back to live poker. No doubt many will crave it...but some will feel quite relaxed playing at home in their pyjamas.

I am sure there will be a few who convert to online play in the longer term.

for sure ... it is better to sanitize your computer keys than all the chips that you pass between the players

Online Poker

I would have to say Yes that the virus has caused a lot of people not to go to the local casinos and play more online from their homes. I know a friend who works at one of the larger casinos here in Colorado and her hours have been cut back due to the decrease in people playing slots, live games etc.

lets all hope & pray this is over soon.. :D

I think so. More people stay at home means they have a whole lotta of time (if they aren't working), when someone's spends a couple of hours everyday to play poker he or she would probably play more poker when there's an opportunity.
Coronavirus quarantine gives us an opportunity to accomplish a lot of things we couldn't do due to life problems - something positive about that quarantine. So, stay home and play poker👍👍👍

It would be nice if the people who are now sitting at home are interested in poker and new players come, but many people are really scared and their thoughts are far from playing poker.

Corona effect on online poker

hi everyone
certainly these days are bad for everyone , the deaths the quarantine , the fear of the future and even the need to stay home most if not all of the time
but for online poker isnt this a shot to come back alive again to the 2009 2010 days?
i mean most of the people i know including myself are happy to play again to pass time
but how are poker rooms responding to this shot they have ?
i mean why dont they make some crazy promos or special tourneys to attract gamers that want to see time pass
hope u share my vision on this matter and what are ur suggestions?

Now when people are in their homes, I don’t think that they will go with new promotions, because they don’t need them to attract anyone. I see more people play, and poker rooms are really busy. So that’s why I don’t think that they will put some new promotions

I see some increase of players in stars but do not expect to reach the levels before black friday. Regarding promotions - it is very dangerous to make campaigns directly connected to the quarantine caused by the virus as they will quickly turn against you (many people will say that you make money from people suffering). pokerstars have campaign now but it is marketed as related to the 19 anniversary of the company and is till beginning of april so this is clever move. Other sites will also follow i suppose.

Well looks like corona is killing bitcoin, and some folks over at ACR are feeling it and taking away the freerolls as a result. I think its kind of funny actually, take away the easy normal payment routes and force feed us bitcoin. Its like they were getting 2 for 1 food stamp deals from their friends but got caught doing it! Good times.

More people home, more can play. My thoughts it should increase traffic. Don't think it will be a huge percentage of people playing over a couple weeks ago. There are more important this to do than playing poker for even the mildly interested in this game.

I don't think poker sites need any promotions for the circumstance. There are more people home anyway and that should automatically increase the traffic. Besides, it could look bad if they try to take advantage of this situation.

Of course, quarantine is linked to the spread of the virus and other restrictions will affect online poker. I think the number of active players days will increase dramatically.

It has increased a lot. On weekdays, on PS it was not exceeding 100k players. Now, there are 120k players. On Sunday there were 170k players at peak hours. In a normal Sunday there were maximum 120k. And it was no event.Very big increase....

I was watching Bloomberg TV today and they were speculating about what hardened sports bettors were gong to do now with all the big sporting events being cancelled. Plus, many casinos are closing. I hope they all jump into online poker. This health crisis and recession could be a huge boost to online poker sites.

Due to the epidemic, casinos are closed and poker enthusiasts go online.
