I totally agree with that statement. Green Valley Ranch is my favorite place to go in Henderson. It is a total resort of 1st class accomodations... Never played poker there but, they have a marvelous sportsbook. I'd be interested to know the good poker spots in Henderson....

I would get a random apartment type rental, even share a room, then commute to the casino... No point to actually stay in the casino's hotel suite it will be a rip-off and also some evil players can hurt you to get revenge for your outplays...

Best they don't know where to find you after the game is up and cheaper too... Just my thinking.

Vegas sounds like an interesting idea, especially since I live in Reno. Might take a summer vacation down there at some point. But looking at the hotel prices, might consider just getting a mobile trailer.

I saw Luxor and Monte Carlo both closed poker rooms. Mandalay Bay or MGM add more tables?

Craft = Excellent

Went a couple of years ago with buddies and thorouhly enjoyed Craft....The steak sampler was out of this world.
Besides great wines , they have a deep selection of songle malts and Bourbons (including Pappy) at the bar.

Craft in the MGM was very good. There also used to be a place in New York New York where they age the steaks and always looked very good, but I never ate there. Foir the record I said it was pretty good not cheap ... lol

There isn't much about "eats" on this thread... so here's the places that I have discovered in Vegas!

The Donut Bar
Just a couple of blocks east of the Fremont Experience, The Donut Bar is a gormet donut shop that you HAVE to stop by if you're a donut fan. They will probably run out of donuts before they close, too.

Hash House A Go-Go
Located in The Plaza Hotel & Casino near Fremont Street, Hash House A Go-Go has some of the best breakfast around! Get the chicken & waffles! You won't be able to eat your breakfast in one setting, either.

Hershey's Chocolate World
Okay, not a restaurant, but you have to check out Hershey's Chocolate World, located inside New York New York, on the strip. So much chocolate, so little time!.... but it is a bit expensive in there.

Vegas grub and accommodations

I tend to visit Las Vegas three times a year, flying from Seattle or Bellingham. I have not stayed or eaten on the Strip for years. It is not worth the prices they ask. I have stayed downtown, eaten downtown and played some live poker downtown with some success. I have stayed at the Golden Nugget, Downtown Grand and the Plaza with varying success. I stay at the one that has the best rate at the time.

For meals that are reasonably priced and meet my expectations, I like the Main Street buffet and the Grotto in the Golden Nugget. On my last trip, I ate at the Aloha in the California and can see why it is a favourite of locals and regulars to the area. As for breakfast, are you ready for this? I grab some fresh fruit at Walgreen's and a damned fine coffee at McDonald's. By controlling my dining costs, I can afford to play in a tournament at the Wynn or Aria, which have decent poker rooms.

I ate at the Main Street buffet during breakfast.. it was excellent!

I also made the mistake of eating at the Bellagio the night my plane landed when I went back in March. It's pretty pricey. Good.. but a bit on the expensive side. Not ungodly expensive, though.

On another note, I've heard good things about the Wicked Spoon.. but have yet to go there.

Gold Coast

Stood here many times. Nothing fancy the room i had but clean comfy and cheep. Get the players card and i really never takes month to get comped. I love the bowling alley here. This is why i was here for bowling league but i would always get comped with buffet and after my first visit never pad again. Been a while since i been there and i had the lowest grade room there but was good enough for me. I just sleep and eat my snacks and shower like crazy in the shower. Love the shower heads, they just flood you with water. Love it.I always took my car so i would just drive to strip. Surprisingly i did not play poker. I did play all else. gambling is GREAT!! I never won big but always scrounge up enough to make most losses back. My wife did have the luck there and always left ahead. She played little but would do better than me. Rumor is the gambling away from strip is best. It sure seem that way. this place is great in my opinion. Not sure how fancy rooms get as i only stood in the freebees. The strip is minutes away but i would not walk this. Hope this might help someone.

The Orleans

Another casino I have stood in during my bowling ventures. Any casino review i post is gonna be a cheap place to stay. I always went to bowl and gamble, never for staying in a room to stare at there amenities. So this place has a unreal price and including buffet with stay. As usual I stood here because it didnt tke much to get comped. They will bombard you with free room and buffet fliers to your house. For two and buffet for 2. Birthday rooms and I would play video poker and also receive rooms and food to come join there free video poker tournaments. I never did go. This place is away from strip and again making it a great gambling place. Meaning, I feel and locals say machines are looser away from strip to attract business. Foods good as I never really spent to much to eat great. I just gambled. Did not play poker here also, so sorry not much to say about that. Bowling alley was great. Did plenty of that and blackjack. Paid for that first room the first time and then just kept getting free rooms after that. Well worth it and the rooms were comfy but not fancy as i only stood in the lowest grade rooms. Food was great and cheap. I never spend to much on food because if you look around theres always insane deals like .99cent ribs and fries or $5 steak and eggs. I always show up for these deals. Then back to the casino. I see that much more has been added since i been there like kids activities. If you want a good price, good gambling and room comps with free meal. Stay here. Then just drive around to see strip. Hope this helps.

The only places I have stayed in Vegas are the Bellagio and Flamingo.
The Bellagio is awesome and probably the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at.
The Flamingo was dated when I stayed there 7,5 years ago.
I did not play poker in the poker room at the Bellagio but it was busy.

One of our favorite places to eat is Firefly on Paradise Rd. Outstanding selection of Tapas and the Sangria is Excellent. Don't pass up the bacon wrapped dates :five: We stop in every time we visit Vegas and the good thing is it's relatively inexpensive. Enjoy!

Yes! Firefly is a must. I dropped in because I was staying in the area. Their tapas menu is extensive and the food is really good!

I know in-N-Out isn't super unique to vegas. But I live in the midwest and don't have access to it here. It's top tier fast food and they have one on the strip.

Yes, IN N OUT is the best burger you can get! I live in California and there are many locations here. In Vegas, there's a just off strip location on the west side of the 15 freeway on Tropicana Blvd. Be prepared to wait a bit but, it's a Double Double!

If I go to las Vegas I will not play poker at all.

poker depends on a state of concentration, so I do not think las vegas is a good place to play.
there is a lot of distraction in places like this

I'm going to have to check them out. I usually stay at the Stratosphere, because I get super cheap deals from them.

I am sure that are loads of successful pros who would disagree with you after winning hundreds of thousands - and millions of dollars playing in Las Vegas. :)
