What do you think of wearing sunglasses at the table?

For your own 'defence' at the poker table you can wear glasses. I prefer to wear them because i think pro's can easily take a read on me with out sunglasses. For pro's sunglasses may not be needed because they are thinking that 'pro' that the can manipulate people with their eyes for a weak or good hand.

Also at my homegame I would kick anyone with sunglasses or hoodie.

Anyway not only eyes show emotions and every move can be read. I personally think that it`s not needed to hide something in yourself to play poker better. Most suxesful professional poker players rely on their own pokerface.

I've tried sunglasses when I was younger and have missed out on so much of the game by not being able to see that well with them. As far as integrity, I would be a big fan of banning them from the game. Unless of course if someone had some kind of proof that it was a necessity for someone to wear them due to medical conditions.

For me, i think that is good use sun glasses because i´m a beginner and i just play poker online. It´s very diferent play in casinos and can be very hard play with professinal players

I rarely play live poker, but I wear sunglasses when I do. I'm surprised how few players seem to take advantage of doing so. Anything that can help gain an edge in the game should be used.

I don't usually wear sunglasses at the table, but I kind of enjoy it as an option for people to have. It's just a different aspect of the game. True, poker wouldn't be on tv if EVERYONE wore hoodies and sunglasses. But not everyone does. I feel pretty confident in saying that most people don't.


i mostly play just for fun though. So, the all-or-nothing argument over sunglasses is a little dramatic for my level of committment to poker. If my rent check was on the line, I might not want to be the only one not wearing sunglasses.
For that reason, I completely understand and respect Daniel Negreanu's quote that JusSumGuy posted up top. Everyone should scroll back up and read that quote. Almost every top pro does NOT wear sunglasses.

I remember Mike Matusow saying something about getting called a lot more often when he was bluffing while NOT wearing sunglasses - even pros have those eye tells. I personally don't wear them mainly because I have regular glasses and don't want too much bulk on my face, lol

i never wear sunglasses but i believe is good to use them most of the tells come from the eyes at least for me <i have noticed that every time I bluff i close my eyes so I am gonna strat using them lol

i dont use them well i cant really im at the age where i have to wear cheaters in order to see the community cards on the board as well as my hole cards nothing like thinking i have a flush and realize i have two different suits in my hand

i dont think it matters for most people, they either arent looking at the villians hard enough or they give away so many tells with their hands etc that it just doesnt matter

Its not necessary to use it cause even your body language can be a tell tale sign.the best thing is to only put your poker face on.

If sunglasses are not against the rules, then anyone can decide to wear or not. I think it works well for folks who know they may have a "tell" on occasion. Im not convinced as i see many of the worlds top players who do not wear or seem to need them.

It's the sympathetic nervous system.

The reason behind wearing sunglasses is due to a eye-tell that is automatic and cannot be controlled. When a person becomes, excited, or happy the sympathetic nervous system kicks in. It's a main cause behind addictive gamblining. When this system becomes activated several responses occur. Norepinephrine which is a precursor to adrenaline is relased increasing heart rate and respiration. It also makes the pupils dilate. This is automatic and cannot be controlled. So sunglasses originally were worn so you couldnt see this reaction. Good players typically are able, at least overtime, to learn any overt tells they have and can self-monitor. But no one can control pupil dilation due to it being an automatic response. When the excitement diminishes the parasympathetic nervous system kicks in which then constricts the pupils and the process begins again. This is really just a consequence of our flight or fight response which is controlled by the sympathic nervous system.
