Pay attention to the action. When it’s your turn to act, be aware of the situation at hand. I’ve seen many players act out of turn or call the big blind when there’s a big raise that they were unaware of. You should have fun playing poker but not too much. Don’t over do it with the free drinks. Drunk players aren’t very appealing. Most importantly, try and relax and enjoy the game. It’s not going to overwhelm you so there’s no need to be nervous. The speed of the game is much slower than online so it’s easy to get sidetracked mentally. Try to stay focused and off the phone Apps lol. Good luck.

Well, I've never played poker live, but I want to prepare when I get the chance. And these tips are very good; First you have to arrive at least 30 minutes before the game starts; pay attention, we are not online that the computer warns you and there are sounds, here there is nothing of that; the handling of the cards; state your intentions clearly; stack your chips by color so you do not inadvertently throw two chips that were not your intended option; protect your letters, that is, not trust anyone and other tips.

My first time playing live was in a single table tournament format. I was nervous because I did not want to be the first player out. I played very cautiously until two players got knocked out in one hand. Right after that I got my first chance to go all in. My heart was pounding ($60 buyin). Won that hand and eventually won the tournament...that really calms the nerves, but playing at a cash table for the first time was even more nerve-wracking. I was at the Bellagio with a friend. The $1-3 limit seemed so much more than the $1-2 in Niagara Falls. Nobody wants to make a fool of themselves, and my buddy were split up at different tables. I just kept my mouth shut, hyper focused and muddled through....losing my $100 buyin, of course, but it was a fun experience. The point is that if you are about to play your first live session, watch, learn and enjoy....you are not Daniel Negreanu or Phil Ivey...have fun.

I agree with everything. I had a case when I first played poker in a casino. It was a very cheap tournament. I push into the limper, I heard a fold from him. And I turned my 64 showing a bluff, but he did not throw out the cards, but only said. As a result, the dealer is confused, and the guy after some controversy at the table with other games has been call with 73 and knocked me out.

Thanks for the advice. I would recommend anyone who wants to play in a live tournament, but is too nervous, to go to a free roll live game. That way if you mess up, or accidentally break rules, its not a big deal. I have gone to https://www.worldtavernpoker.com/ events and have had a fun time. They host free poker games at local bars and restaurants across the US.

Can't wait

I know this is an old thread, but I found the article interesting. I liked it all -- a good indicator of what to expect.

I've never played live poker at a casino. By the time I learned the game, the places I've lived didn't have gambling venues. I'm sure playing live is MUCH different than my online games and tourneys have been.

A nephew has dealt at a casino for years, and they've just recently stopped poker. They decided it just wasn't worth the trouble. He's happy about the decision and says the job is much easier and less stressful only dealing games like baccarat and Black Jack. His daughter has just recently competed her dealer training. She's only been working for a while, but he says she's already had experiences like people throwing their cards at her, etc. Talk about a lack of etiquette!!!

Looking forward to my first time.
