I ask because many times it is said that a player befriended another at a table, so many times frequent the same place.
In my case, I find it hard to achieve a solid friendship at a table, that is why I like to vary the casinos where I am going to play. So they have no chance to meet me and I feel calmer when I am in new environments.
Although the ideal is to meet the player who confronted me, to be able to gather more information about his game and use it in my favor.
What do you think of this aspect of poker? Are you really interested in forming friendships at a poker table?
Greetings and thanks for your answer.
Anytime you see the same people over and over again you are bound to develop familiarity. Poker is no different, the regs tend to become friends with each other because they are in that world together, while the randoms, tourists, strangers etc. would be seen as the 'other'
It may seem counter intuitive you would make a friend in poker if you battle each other, but without friends the game is too lonely and unbearable. Also often many of the better players will swap action with each other so they benefit from 'being on the same team' and helping each other improve their game.
In the short run it may make sense to take the approach of gathering info to try to beat people, but in the long run it leads to you being on the outside. When you take the long run approach of forming a team with the best people you will find youself enjoying the game more, growing together as friends, and winning more money as a result.
I've experience both, and the best times I've had in life were when I was with my best friends, not when I was making the money money, so even if it means I make a bit less at the tables yes, I would rather make good friends who share a common passion with me.
That's also where forums and training sites are great, you can find like minded people to form friendships with, and down the road you will even get to play together. It takes away the short run worry though of eating each other's dinner
Hope you enjoy my response, it's truly a great question you posed!
