It's not possible to cheat in online poker, it just can't happen even if you have other ppl playing on the same table

I once was seat 10 at a live table and the dealer was making it very easy for me to see the cards being dealt to seats 2,3,&4. I noticed it happen 2 times consecutively and informed the poker room pit boss. He thanked me and talked to the dealer privately. I just couldn't with good conscious play that way. And yes. It's absolutely possible for ppl to cheat online.

Because of what I had seen in the movies I thought I was going to be dealing with shady characters in back alleys, when I first started to play. Thats why I bout a dvd about how to cheat in poker so I could know what I would be up against, to make sure I wouldnt get cheated myself. Never even opened the dvd, now its lost deep in a storage unit somewhere.

I was playing $1 and $2 NLHE at my favourite casino, the Grey Eagle, in Calgary. I thought I had a flush, and I called it as such at the showdown at the river. The guy beside me took exception because he said that one of the cards in my flush belonged to another suit. I looked at my spade flush and realized that he was right, because one of the cards was a club, so I withdrew my cards with the dealer's permission.

Then, the guy beside me stood up and called me a cheater. So, I stood up and I told him he had 10 seconds to apologize or I was going to drop him where he stood. And, trust me - I would have. At which point, the dealer told the guy who had insulted me that it was no big deal and that this kind of thing happenned all the time and it was for that reason that dealers read out loud all the cards on the table at the showdown on the river.

So the guy beside me realized that everyone at the table was looking at him like he was some kind of idiot. So, he apologized to me when he realized it really was a mistake. And, so I accepted his apology, and I apologized to the dealer and to the players at the table for making such a dumb mistake. Most everybody laughed, and that was the end of that.

People tend to overreact when there's money involved, you would have never gotten the pot and he should know that. Possibly a new player or perhaps alcohol was involved. If I were you I'd probably take a different route in the future though, him calling you a cheater is just silly but you threatening him with violence is probably the bigger over-reaction. Why risk being kicked out of the place you play and going to jail at over him being stupid? Not like his opinion carries any weight anywhere else besides in his head.

I have had many years to think the situation over. It is not so much that he called me a cheater that prompted how I responded. It was that he stood up when he called me a cheater. When someone stands up in what I then perceived as a threatenning manner, there is not much choice in what to do next. Faced with possible violence myself, because he is not standing up for nothing, let's face that right now, there are few options, but to stand up also and to face the threat head on. So, I did what I did. Telling him he had 10 seconds to apologize or I would drop him where he stood was my way of answering a perceived threat to myself. And, it was my way of letting him know if he wanted to carry out the threat I was reading in his body language that I was ready not just for him to bring it to me but that I was more than ready to bring it to him. Sometimes there is just no other alternative than to respond in kind to a perceived threat. This was one of those times.

Looking back, I would handle it exactly as I did. I don't like violence anymore than most people do, but sometimes in a casino it pays to read what people are capable of off the table. I read this guy by his stance as dangerous, as if he was about to pounce, and I believe I reacted in the only manner he was capable of understanding at that moment. I wasn't about to stay in my seat and get head-punched over a dumb mistake.

I know you probably disagree, but you really had to be there in the moment. After he got taken out by one of the other players later in the game, more than one said that they thought he was going to clock me where I sat. At times like that I really do not think that people worry about going to jail or not being allowed to play poker at their favourite place again. Sometimes you just have to go on your gut feelings. I did. In hindsight, I think my read was right. So did others.

Not quite as savvy as Bronson Doyle but i think i,ve seen it all . :icon_fara I learnt very early in my card playing endeavours to hide the fact that i was winning . If you didn,t do this , you were a target and you were likely to get cheated or mugged. :secruity: Distraction was your enemy as many players had decks swapped on them because of a pretty ladies entrance . Today : card marking at casinos is rife ; ask for a deck count or change often . :listen: Online ,HMMMMMMM ; Had an occurrence at Full Tilt before Black Friday that made me suspect things were not kosher ; FT bubble in 3000 player $11 rebuy , 4th in stack size with AKs . All in verse small stack BB , called by K2 unsuited by equal stacked player and KO,d by a 2 . No one calls K2 unsuited , ever , and definitely not FT bubble . Will always suspect that player knew the board preflop , thats the only way you could call . :secruity:

Some people would rather put the time in finding new ways to cheat instead of getting better.

I guess we all deal with that kind of thing differently and I'm also guessing alcohol was involved. Personally, I'm big enough that I rarely deal with the people who try to puff their chest up and act tough over nothing. And I'm not as worried about getting punched in the face as I am about going to jail or being 86ed from my spots. I would have called his bluff and told him to sit down and play or find another table.
