No, you do not the the value of AH or AS. 1 can have the value of 0 while the other have the value of X.

Are you focused or just trying to validate your point of view? Look at the issue more closely! Sometimes, common sense deceives us.

4+4+4= 12

AsAh+AsAH+4=16
16-4= 12

(As+Ah)+(As+Ah)=12

But there is an infinity combo, right?

As can equal 3, and Ah can equal 3
But As can equal 0, and AH can equal 6
As can even be negative -100 and AH can be 106

At the end we need to add As but it can be an infinity range of numbers. So this is the part I am stuck.

The answer is 11.

The value of the chip is the number of curves in its spiral. The chips in the first two equations are equal to 4 but that's because each has four curves. The one at the bottom has five curves.

You also have to make the assumption that each ace is of equal value.

Thus, 2 - 6 + (3 x 5) = 11.

How did you determine the value of the difference aces? Aces Spade can be 1 number, Aces heart can be another number.

possibilities...

I hope I am right, as I trust my poker plays ...

4 + 4 + 4 = 12
6 + 6 + 4 = 16
6 + 2 + 2 = 10

4 - 6 + (3x4) = 8

:D;):p:):rolleyes::cool::eek:

2 - 6 + 6 x 4 = 2 - 6 + 24 = -4 + 24 = 20
Multiplication before addition/substraction, after that from left to right, right?

edit: nvm it's a trap..

Exactly! Using an order rule to do the operations ensures that everyone can read and solve a problem in the same way. Now, Look and try again that you will be able to solve it.

4 + 4 + 4 = 12
6 + 6 + 4 = 16
6 + 2 + 2 = 10
2 - 6 + (4 x 5) = 16

The pair of aces has a value of 6 because there are 3 A's and 3 suite symbols visible. The single Ace of spades has a value of 4 because of the 2 A's and 2 spade symbols visible. The last poker chip has a value of 5 because it has 5 spirals instead of 4 like the ones above it.

Won't matter to me if I'm correct or wrong.......this post is great! It helps a person to think out of the box. It reminds me of "lateral thinking puzzles" and those can be so fun. Thanks very much for this acidburnfx :)

I don't know if the two aces are supposed to be treated as having the same value or different values but I think the point of the riddle was to see if you could spot the difference between the chip at the bottom and the chips at the top.

Anyway, if the answer's not 11 then I give up.

Indeed! I'm sure that after you drink that extra dose of caffeine, you will have a significant increase in performance to resolve this issue. :icon_colo

4 + 4 + 4 = 12

6 + 6 + 4 = 16

6 + 2 + 2 = 10

2 - 6 + 3 x 4 = -16 (w/ pedmas)

2 - 6 + 3 x 4 = -4 (w/o pedmas)

I would agree with the idea and the answer except with the -16.

My answer would be:

2 - 6 + 3 x 4 = -4 (w/o pedmas) whatever that is...

and

2 - 6 + (3 x 4) = +8

Sorry, hahaha I did not understand, I have the doubt that type of problem is an explanation a little more understandable

Last chip is different (5 swirls), so it's 2 - 6 + (3 x 5) = 11
