in tournaments it's easier to increase your Bank, cash games not so often do you get to play a lot.. but also lose money in tournaments is much easier to play and depends on luck or not..

According to me it depends on your stability playing poker...cash games are good on small distance..you can earn money immediately...but while you are playing tournaments you have to be like Rock))

Rake in cash games is getting way to big. To win money in cash games you gotta have to combine insane volume and a huge edge over the field to play profitably above rake.

If you have the time, MTT and SNGs are great to play. Cash games for me are a different beast that are hard to tame.

I play as a hobby mainly for now , I play both at micros , zoom 2nl and 5nl , some sng and tournament if I have patience enough toplay it , and freerolls most of the time ofcourse , CCmainly :) But , the good I like at the tournaments/sngs when I play is that you controll the cost , at cash games Zoom I like the rake I generate more fast when I need it like last month :) I need to get improved and then play more tournaments to know where I will be able to make money , at tournaments or cash games :)

For cache table game players directly limited time, hence the results can be evaluated only at long distance. In tournaments there are strict time limits in them luck factor plays a more prominent role.I personally play both formats)

You'll need to find that out for yourself. I find that cash games are more steady, easier to find and less likely to have long droughts with nothing, but you can have bigger swings as well.

Honestly you shall try all of disciplines and look what works better for you on a distance. Tournaments and ring games have both their pros and contras. I would go through some main points to examine those differences of both.
TIME: Cash is very adjustable to your free time. No matter if you have just 10 minutes or 3 hours, you can play that much hands accordingly to free time you have. However it's smarter to wait until big blind before you come in and going hand before you will be at the big blind again. With tournaments you have to invest much more time with SNGs (depends on structure) 30 minutes till 1,5 hour per game and with MTTs i would say 2-3 hours as minimum to reach final table, at some big MTTs, like on pokerstars running it could take way much longer, some games need even like 7-9 hours to get to the final table.
MATH: Mathematics at both is different too. If at cash every 1 of your chips is equal 1cent (or dollar/euro whatever currency you play), at tournament there is only buy-in and the chips are only a part of all chips count, which you need to collect to be the winner. And in fact there work different rules: more chips you have less they worth. Also need to thinking about Harrington's M numbers and play accordingly. Honestly at cash poker math is more clear, than at tournaments.
RISKS: Cash is more risky indeed, because of it's nature. You can loose all the money on table just after one sick cooler. At the tournament you can't loose more than buy-in you made. And most time stacks are so different at tournament, that if you probably still have chips to play even after got beat. Well of course you could use your money more conservative and play lower cash limits to decrease your loses in case you have an unlucky day. But you shall be prepared, in cash if you are unlucky, you are loosing way much faster.
NOTES & PLAYERS: At tournaments (especially MTT) you will face pretty random players and be likely thrown from table to table after some amount of hands. At cash you could play with the same people for hours and find them easier at next days, just going through cash tables and look where your favorite fish is. :D
WINNINGS: Cash is more like earning money, rather than winning. You are rarely win there big and when it happens its rarely x3 of your stack. At MTT you will have different feeling of something big happens, when you reach final table and prizes jump up with every next place like crazy and you able to win like x100 or even more of your buy-in money. It happen not very often have to admit, but when it happens, you'll get your feel-good-chemicals-kick, i promise. ;)

So it depends on you. What works better for you, which kind of poker do you like. I have chosed SNGs, because its more like golden middle about time investion, but playing also MTTs when i have time for. I used to try cash games many times, but most times it was a bad idea. Therefore here is a tip from me: do not play both! Try them all out and choose at which you will be specializing, do not spread yourself. Better being good at one, than bad at everything.
Good luck at the tables!

Cash games are more risky than tournament.
You can win quickly from cash games, and maybe lose it the same way.

Yup, play cash games when you have little time, but a big tourney if you have a good few hours to spare.

Tournaments are best for winning big in a short space of time (it could take weeks to get the same return in cash games). However more often than not you probably won't make the final table in tourneys, meaning returns will be much more stable in cash games.

You will also probably end up paying less fees to the poker site by playing long tourneys than continously playing multi table cash games.

I play cash games right now but I see I have potential in tournaments also, so I plan to shift my focus on MTT and play both

I want to know other people experience. How do you make more money, playing cash games or playing tournaments?

Tournaments have higher variance, meaning you can have big upswings and downswings, also you have to learn how to adjust to different structures, and levels in the tournament, also being able to play your game without getting too fatigued after 3-8 hours is important.

Cash is more steady, and you have more control (you can sit down/leave whenever/ bum-hunt, etc) But it doesn't have the shiny big prizepools mtts have, you don't have to learn how to play different stack sizes as you should be topping up max buyin so your play will be more straight forward and you don't have to get put in as many tough spots as long as you know how your playing your ranges 6/9 handed 200bb deep or whatever your playing.

If you can't afford to top up or don't know how to adjust to different stages in mtts i'd focus on learning cash games to start your roll.

Hello. In order to get more money without risk a lot of money ...tournaments are the best solution. With 2-3$ ...you can win up to 500$ .You risk small value for a good price .On the other way ,,playing cash with big stacks needs risky decisions. But if you are a good player ,you can build a bankroll from freerolls and start your carrier .Have a nice game !

i am more comfortable at tournaments where you can bluff sometimes without losing real money.i think it depends on your playing style,if you are a tihgt player then cash games wont be your best.

I really enjoy a tournament but once you join you're committed. With a cash game you can make a hit and leave. I make a lot more money popping into a ring game.

With my small bankroll I have played only micro limit cash games and result is on negative side so far. Some times I get something but it is very hard. Most of player are very loose so if I start ahead then they call to river and one of them wil win with last card... so.. at least micro stake cash games are not for me yet.

Cash games are quicker returns for sure, but one bad beat and you could lose everything. At least a tourney has a set buy in and you know what your loss will be if you don't succeed. Running well in a tourney and making that final table is a whole lot more fun than the $$$ games.
