You need to win about $200.00 per day to even be in the ballpark. So your minimum poker bankroll would have to be around 10,000 dollars. It is not impossible, but those who have tried would be the best to advise you.

Oh my gosh this thread is ridiculous. OP, stay humble. Stay at whatever stakes you're at till you've got its number. Scary to read that you've been getting cash in 90% of your tournaments, because if you expect that, real life is gonna be a punch in the neck.

well your roll isnt puny, many try to go from 0 to hero, so you're already way ahead of them
do you only play/prefer tournies?
you should have 50-100 buyins for the level your playing
so $70=$1(maybe $2) games
really follow bankroll management (its what screws us when we move up too quick)
do you play sitngos? the smaller fields over large mtts means more (but smaller) wins

if you're just grasping position, theres so much more to read up on and learn,
position is a BIG factor, so is knowing what type of player you're against,
when to 3 and 4bet (and fold),
M value (when stack is small it comes to a push or fold game)
bubble play (dont play scared just trying to min cash)
do you study your hand histories to see where you are losing most? (like overvaluing ak)

there really is more to this game than people give credit for
but it sounds like you already do very well and just need to fine tune a few things
forget being a pro and just keep up the regular wins, and 1 day you may hit it big:)

If you’re living on your own then you only need to support yourself and you might be willing to sacrifice some months in order to fulfill your dreams. If you already have a family to support though then this is a completely different situation and you might not be able to take the risk of becoming a pro poker player.

one big tip actually i can give is not to focus on becoming a pro let it happen naturally not everyone can and wants to when they see how difficult it is to be a pro, don't get caught up in trying to be a pro if you have not played higher stakes and not seen how difficult it can be to handle the swings at the higher level

My current bank roll is small, like I said. $75.00. Could I contribute more? Yes. But, I am trying to play as smart as possible and lose as small amount as possible while I am making my transition from playing this game just for fun.. to making a profit off of it. I have always been a decent poker player. Especially in live games. In live tournaments I win cash 90% of the games that I play. Online, I place a lot in the top 50 but do not always get to the cash portion. A lot of times, I Just barely miss the cash out.

If you're trying to get to a profesional-level bankroll status (or even be withdrawing a level that would be a significant relative to your current full time job), that looks highly unlikely considering your bankroll is $75. Following good bankroll management, you can really only play $1 SnGs, or play 4NL cash games.

However, if you're just looking to profit, then you've got a decent bankroll to start doing that. Continue to follow the forum to learn about optimal strategies as the tournaments get close to the money bubble, and I'm sure you'll start cashing more in those tourneys.

You can dream about becoming a pro, but don't plan on it. Just play.

The best thing to do is build a bankroll. Learn to build it slowly. The more patient you are the easier it will be to build. If you try to build your roll to fast you will be eager to recoup your losses and it will hurt your game in the long run.
As far as being a pro you are nowhere near anything like that. Learn to be a winning player with a $7,500 roll then you can think about maybe becoming a pro.

Sorry, I don't get what you are trying to say. Can you try to explain it better?

with a small bankroll, i'd stick to sng's or small field tourneys, i wouldnt play cash micros because you have more chance busting your br against those lucky beginners than reaching mid stakes.
gl

Yeah, I realized that quite quickly with online poker. There seems to be a lot of bad beats that happen on the micro cash tables. Its pretty disgusting what some people play with for cards.

What stakes do you play live? Are these home games or casinos? Sorry for so many questions. I am just trying to better access your situation.

As far as online tourneys go you can place in the top 50 when you are playing against 300 people that dont know the correct way to play poker.

Right now it is strictly online poker. I moved a few months ago and the closest casino to me is about six hours away. Most of the tournaments I play in have way more than 300 people that enter them. Sometimes I wonder when I just barely miss the button if its because I wasn't playing aggressively enough or if it was just plain ole' bad cards all together.

Don't quit your day job. Best tip ever.

I don't ever plan on quitting my day job. :) However, If I can make even 10k a year off of poker, I will take it. Because it will allow me to do the other things with my life that my current salary does not allow for.

Win $200 per day in order to be a professional? I just want to make sure I am understanding your statement correctly. Are there a lot of people on this site who are successful professional poker players?

I do prefer tournament/sitNgos over cash games. I do not know why, but I don't feel as confident in cash game play as I do in a tournament type setting. Lately I have been playing a lot of DONs and I have won about 80% of the ones I have played. So I am starting to slowly build my BR through those. I mainly play the $2 ones. How do you all feel about DONs?

Well the way I see a "professional" is that when you profit at doing something, it becomes a job. When you are getting paid, you are a professional. :)

Become a student of the game. That means reading, controlling and reviewing hand histories, and of course playing everytime you have the chance. I wouldn't worry about becoming a pro until you are a consistently winning player. That takes a great deal of time and practice. Best of luck to you!

playing any time you have a chance is not always a good idea unless you are talking about a person with a life already, you need to balance your life, sitting around playing poker 18 hours a day is not a good idea

I have a similar goal, to take a $100 bankroll and grow with it as a player until I am consistently winning in such a way that I can make a few hundred extra a month on the side (more the merrier of course ;) ).

Best advice I could offer given my current inexperience would be make bankroll management your new religion and fall in love with the game. If you play it purely for the money, much like anything else that is purely money motivated, it will loose it's charm and become just a daily grind eventually. I play because I enjoy the game itself and if I can turn a healthy side-income as a side effect so much the better!

Good luck to us both on accomplishing our poker goals! :)

What you might want to realize instead is >>> if you can't win on the micro cash tables with a higher winrate than anyother stakes, you have ALOT to learn (perhaps more than you might think).
I'm not suggesting that cash games is where you might want to play (especially if you're more comfortable with sng/mtt). Seriously though, microstakes are going to obviously be the easiest tables to win on including those 'lucky beginners who play with disgusting cards'.

As others have mentioned, great you want to have a 2nd income from poker but tbh from reading your posts on here (& elsewhere) you might want to think instead about becoming a student of the game ie. put in 20k hands at micro stakes & see how you're doing. imo it takes a long time before you'll be making any kind of hourly rate that would come close to working a few extra hours of overtime at your day job.

just go play some satellites in the sunday million and then win the tournament, then you are well bankrolled, micro stakes is a waste of time :D
