Hello,

I am new here and I am looking for advice in starting out on the journey to becoming a pro poker player on a smaller bankroll. For the most part I grasp position play and the importance of it. Where I tend to get lost a little is how much bank roll I should have for each situation.

Playing at micro limits is the best way to start with small bankroll! And just play tight!

be patient! play for long term and take advantage of all freerolls, and practice good bankroll management, when you play don't worry about the money most importantly and look at the decisions you make and not the results

Hello if you are playing on the internet, it is hard to do this as many players are reckless and get lucky calls , also some sites have bad technology like 888 and coral bet365, very bad decks and cards the closest site to real life decks in my opinion is fulltilt or pokerstars, i am winning regularly on these sites playing tight and waiting for certain hands and situations that demand some good bluffing, i have been playing for one year and getting better everyday i finish in the top 20 of almost every tourny i enter now , you learn by mistakes and from others as you go along i believe if you have it in you to become as good as a pro you have it in you, some do and some dont, youtube has some decent teachers from some of the best pros in the bizz, listen to them and also check your opponents play and read them it becomes easier, change your play not become easy for your opponents to read you, most players you meet will be bad players, also i have learned those russian players are mostly bluffers, i say it how i see it.

lol at this entire post especially the part of finishing in top 20 of almost every tourney :) and the bad technology of the sites mentioned is funny cause no pro would every say something like that, if you are good you will make money on just about any site, and the part of most russian players being bluffers is a generalization that should not be taken seriously by anyone

Yeah, I realize this isn't an overnight goal. I have a decent job... however if I could double my salary (as in make the same amount that I make now, making poker) I would be happy with that.

with a small bankroll, i'd stick to sng's or small field tourneys, i wouldnt play cash micros because you have more chance busting your br against those lucky beginners than reaching mid stakes.

Try the PS freerolls I think these are better than FT`s.. At FT they had canceled the tourneys with $150 prizepool.

if you can't beat micro cash again'st your so called lucky begginers than you won't beat higher stakes either, if they are getting lucky btw that means you are getting it in ahead and getting sucked out which means in the long term if you keep playing you will win money and they will lose, mid stakes is much much tougher so you will just be dumping your money to the regs there, small field tourneys have much higher variance, sng's is fine though

My current bank roll is small, like I said. $75.00. Could I contribute more? Yes. But, I am trying to play as smart as possible and lose as small amount as possible while I am making my transition from playing this game just for fun.. to making a profit off of it. I have always been a decent poker player. Especially in live games. In live tournaments I win cash 90% of the games that I play. Online, I place a lot in the top 50 but do not always get to the cash portion. A lot of times, I Just barely miss the cash out.

What stakes do you play live? Are these home games or casinos? Sorry for so many questions. I am just trying to better access your situation.

As far as online tourneys go you can place in the top 50 when you are playing against 300 people that dont know the correct way to play poker.

Practising good bankroll management is key to building up a small bankroll into a big bankroll, be patient and take advantage of opportunities such as freerolls , bonuses that the site you play on might provide etc. Good bankroll management will allow you to survive the downswings and upswings that inevitably happen in poker.GL with the journey to possibly going pro......scorp

I have the same results! To me is much easier to get reads on live games, but we can still notice some tells on the online game, it is just a matter of playing attention to the players. That is why is easier to cash in a full ring table then in a MTT, where the tables changes every time.

Do not focus just on poker. You must control the outside interests in your life. Yes, focus on poker but do not forget diet, sleep, social events. You need to keep sane.

Live games are easier for a few reasons. The games are slower and you can see people to read them. However just because you can see them doesn't always mean you have the right read. online poker is fast. you see a lot more hands an hour than you do live. The key to becoming good at online poker is time, patience, and practice. You also have to remember that online poker is not 100% random. There are hands that are going to be thrown in that are meant to see action. Don't get too excited if you see AK or QQ and push all in chances are someone will have AA or KK.
