Good job jijiboss!

Okay I am back in action today. Though some of my tournament time will be taken up watching videos, etc. I am not expecting Sept to be anything special - but October or November will be my month!

I haven't been fairing so well on the tourney front, my best finish so far this month was 113th place with a field size of 6718.

I seem to find when I want to make a move I almost always choose the wrong time which ends up crippling me or costing me my stack.

i dont play many multi table tourneys. i neither have the time nor the patience. I played the cc pokerstars deepstack on sunday - the structure was nice (lots of room for manouever ) but the lenght of time it took nearly drove me batty. i just dont think i can concentrate for that long.

i dont think i have the patience to play for hours and only make a few cents above buy in. obv my mentality is not suited to mtt.

i respect those who can mtt with rgularity. How do you get the time or the space in the day not to be interuppted?

I am fortunate that I don't have a real job and Joe is at work during the day. With no kids it is just me and the dogs. I try to workout and run any errands in the morning and I play my tournaments in the early afternoon. When Joe gets home he works out and showers. If I am still in a tournament by then it means I am itm - so he doesn't mind that I am still playing.

I walk the dogs right before I start - and with the synchronized breaks now I can take them out for a few minutes every hour.

Unfortunately for my poker most days I am done by the time he gets home lol.

My life is tough. :p

- I don't sleep much on the weekens (my gf sleeps loooong, usually until 1pm) and I'm awake at 6-7 ready for poker (without being disturbed :D:joyman::D)

- I multitable 4 mtts - then they're not so boring.

- I suggest working on your patience - it will help you in sngs, cash + real-life, too.

Nice read on my part - I knew I had him beat. He kept coming way over the top to defend his big blinds lol. Sad.

I've been playing mainly the $3 and $6 KO 90-player tourneys on Full Tilt lately, and been hitting a couple of satellites for the MiniFTOPS tournaments (won entry to the MiniFTOPS Event #1 on Wednesday, and the MiniFTOPS Event #8 on September 13 - I ended up unregistering for the MiniFTOPS event that was $10+$1 rebuy tournament that I won entry to), and satellites for the $20 tournament (Bring $22 and a dream tournament) on Sundays, which I have been hitting every other week.

Every once in awhile, I'll jump into a large $10 tourney, and that's something I shouldn't be doing while on a downswing, lol.

Lately, I've been on a bit of a downswing, trying to get that back up. I think it has something to do with the lack of playing live lately. I haven't played a live game in about 3 months. Been playing all online, and though, I do enjoy playing online, it's much more fun for me to play live. And it's easier to get tells, lol.

Geez... you guys are so lucky. I finally had a day off from both school and work on Monday, so I threw a good chunk of my BR at a $2.75 7K guaranteed MTT on Stars and ended up taking down 141st place for $33 and change.

Just think if I had a lot of time on my hands what I could do? Wait... nevermind, don't answer that.

LoL, nice run jazz. I play that one sometimes too...and the miniftops sats like mortis. rebuy satellites may turn out to be most profitable form of poker for me. I'm decent at going deepish/survival poker and stealing late game rather than chip accumulation/taking first place...so they are much more suited for me than regular tournaments.

Also, you play less rake on your investment since the rebuys aren't raked, and if I rebuy to start and addon, almost always have ~average stack+ after the rebuy period, with higher ratio of ticket value to investment than players left to players paid.

I've only played ~15 for ~$30 investment so far, but have cashed 6 for $176 in prizes (only a few this month). Not going to claim that's sustainable, but its not just a lucky run as I get close or in good position anytime I rebuy to start and addon. I've tried to make it on just the original buyin a few times and that's not a good idea.

I failed in my next attempt at that $55 ticket when I spewed most of a 55bb stack with bottom two pair on bb limped flop 'special' when half the field was already gone and I could have easily just played small pots/stolen blinds until near the bubble. :s:

That's the $33 ticket right? I fell short in that one when AK < TQ shove from tilted villain. Winning that pot would have just about secured a final table/cash and very good chance at a ticket.

You're still playing that one I suppose? Good luck.

ok serious question MTT regs.

Preparing for a MTT what do ye do?

Clear schedule, put on music etc or just sign up and play? Any weird rituals?

Im thinking of doing a MTT month in the near future and see if i can bear it. I would like to hear your thoughts?

I don't clear my schedule but I should lol.

When I am playing my regular $5 and $10 tournaments during the first hour or 2 I do allow distractions - though it is very debatable whether I should or not. It is too difficult to clear that much time out of the day.

But as I get further I focus more on the game. And when I play any higher stakes I focus from the start.

You will sometimes find that you are on the same table for quite some time. It really pays off to pay attention to how the others are playing - and to be aware of how they might be perceiving you. I take notes when I can - though to be honest I don't see the same players often. But the one time I made it to the final table it was huge that on the last 3 tables I already had some notes on some of the players and was familiar with a few of them.

But the one time I made it to the final table it was huge that on the last 3 tables I already had some notes on some of the players and was familiar with a few of them.

i understand that this can change due to the tempo of the MTT (Blinds pressure/bubble etc) and that notes made earlier in the Tourney may become largely irrelevant as can HEM stats.

i suppose i am questioning the value of notes as opposed to the ebb and flow of the tourney if this makes sense unless notes are made clear that it is early stages/late stages of tourney when the note is made. Are notes in tourneys more general due to not meeting people as often?

Do you mark you note lets say " Level iv $10 MTT - seems competent - plays postions, steals blinds well every 1-2 orbits - folds well to re-raise etc" then on same player " Level ix $10mtt - not afraid of bubble - steals blinds and puts pressure on mid stacks - seem to know what he is doing etc"

Any weird rituals Daks?

I put as much detail in the notes as I can - you have plenty of space for that. I definitely note the stage of the tournament. Most of my notes are made past the initial stage of the tournament.

Also it pays to note that in these smaller buy-ins a lot of players don't realize that they need to change their game as the tournament progresses lol. That is also true of the higher ones that have a lot of satellite winners in them. That is when it pays to check their experience in OPR. I like to see how often they have played at that level - or even played tournaments at all. I do look at itm - but honestly you can have some very good tournament players with a low itm%.

oh , did not think to look up experience on OPR. that would help somewhat.

What has helped you the most in progressing your MTT expertise?

Patience,Patience,Patience

It is a trait so many players do not have.

Set Goals for each part of the tourney
Make the first hour ,make the second hour, make the money, make the final table

Be prepared to lay down some hands, Be prepared to enter a few races,
Never slow play the Nuts early in tournies
If your close to Bubble and are playing satellite tournies make sure you have other table(s) open and you know what your similar placed opponets are doing.

Made my first cash in a MTT tonight. It was a 20fpp turbo tourny on stars. I was playing shortstacked for alot of it cause there was people going all in almost every hand, no chance of stealing any blinds so I just had to wait for the right cards to come my way...

Anyway I placed 360/4151 for a big $0.70! Card dead for the last 15 or so hands and the lost out on this shocker...

I think setting goals such as making the first hour will only serve to instill bad habits. You always want to be making decisions that give you the best chance at reaching the final table, as that is where the money is at.

Papience is the major key, I concur.

I'd add learning to read betting patterns and using position as a weapon, too.

Sure getting ITM and to the FT is the goal but I don't think trying to survive will hurt your game - keep in mind we are talking about players who usually don't even get deep.
