Thats easy will never forget how foolish I was 12/13 years back
I had been playing live poker Tournaments for a few years before
online poker went big, I was a below average player
around the year 2003 online poker started to gain momentum, and I had a few years head start on the majority of players online, I was a pocket money player and all my pocket money went on satellites to try for a Sunday night seat in a the big Sunday night game and try my luck at the big time, the seats were $200 cannot remember if the uk played in $ then? I think they were,
I generally did well in satellites and remember winning a seat for the Sunday night
Ladbrokes game, now the most money I had won online was probably @ $500 in a torny
Well this night I got lucky and got 4th place in ladbrokes Sunday nighter paying $7500 this give me a great start for my
poker online account, I remember I got lucky a couple of times and still after this win I still believed I was a below average tournament player, I played a few more games and got no where, so made a decision to turn to cash tables with my poker bank.
Those days the lower stakes up to $1/2 was a sit and wait for the
hands game, in other words the TAG,s cleaned up, I started off losing on ladbrokes cash games, and put my bank of around 6k into
betfair poker and studied the TAGs I started to watch this one player never forget his name he was called Paymybills a Betfair winner up to the $1/2 game, he played 4 tables with $200 on each, and I could not believe the way he bet, very strong and although he hardly played many hands he still got paid, so I copied him, and it worked, with in 1 year my 6k was up to 22k this was so easy especially with Moneymaker winning the
wsop bringing loads of newb'ys into the arena seeming happy to give their hard earned away without a fight
I lived the good times new cars /holidays to the US/ Europe for 2/3 years, and also had a well paid job at the time, and my online poker bank would still level between 18/20k.
LOL then something changed, the Loose aggressive player style appeared, and I tried to adapt, started to lose so decided to do the same strategy in trying to learn off one fantastic player at the $1/2 level he seems to
bluff a lot and constantly putting people to the sword and getting paid, it just did not work for me, my bank just kept going down so after losing a few thousand decided to go back to the TAG style and once again I was constantly losing, I finally came to a decision and get out before the lot went with @4k left in the poker bank.
The game then to what it is now has changed so much, I had my chance and blew it. From laying out $800 per night for around 3 years to playing 25c and $5 satellites games, actually turning a full circle, because this is how I started the game, but the upside of this is I do well with these lol.
