Wait what ?

You make more money from good players than from bad ones ? Sell your house and go play Ivey on Tilt imo.
TenBob no one is saying move to the top tier but sometimes one level can make a huge differance. Bad players drive the game no doubt and if I find myself sitting at a table and I am outmatched I find another table but to sit at a table that is populated by loose aggresive mental cases is a diaster, micros can be those tables. Heres a very long story cut very short...I was playing 1/2 at Foxwoods for about a year and my results were very erratic, mostly losing. After one brutal day of insane play I was walking to the mens room and one of the dealers coming back from break saw me and said "Do yourself a favor, if you can afford it move up to 2/5 and play solid ABC poker and I bet your results get better" I could not beleive it, here I was getting torched and this guy wants me to move up ?! He must have seen my face and said "Your playing poker and these guys are playing bingo..move up and give it a try just go slow at first" The next time down there I worked up the courage to buy in and give it a try, I was shaking inside but I played super tight and careful but it was a real poker game...the moneys bigger and the talent is better so there is a little respect for the game...I made a little over $1500 that day (played about 11 hours) I could bluff a little and make it work where bluffs at a 1/2 table is suicide cuz they will call you down to the river with bottom pair. A year after I started playing 2/5 my bankroll went from $1000 to a little over $10,000...I still have losing days, just had two in a row in fact but its a real poker game. I did the same on line at the same time..playing on PS I moved up from .1/.2 and .2/.5 to .25/.50, not a huge leap up, I went from playing 10 tables to four and started to win right off the bat. The online game is much differant I know. My point is, playing at the lowest limits is a minefield, if you have even the basics of the game move up 1 or 2 levels and go slow, if you get beat bad move back down. It worked for me..good luck

This is what I have been doing since I started this thread, and have had a good winning streak since by playing my own game.

I was just thinking about the title of this thread.
And a thought went through my head.

(Hmm, first line of a song????lol)

The more you learn, the more you try to apply that learning. And trying to implement some moves that can only be used against certain players can have undesired results if those players are not who you are facing. If you get what I mean.

Like trying to represent AA vs a player who has, say, a pair of 6s and will not see beyond his own hand.. He aint gonna get it. Hes has a pair. He aint folding.

I think this is spot on. Probably the reason I find it somewhat easier if moving up slightly in limits (it's easier to analyze a thinking player).

It's probably also the explanation that people say "Micros are unbeatable" - we/they treat everyone as a good player, and trying to practise the theory we have learnt. For example, hand ranges are not as important in the lower stakes as many are not positionally aware for instance. Someone calling a 3b UTG doesn't necessarily mean he has a premium hand, it may well be a hand that should've been played on the button instead.

So, in micro stakes, if and facing a reg - I now try to implement the best possible theory and read the situation, hand ranges etc... BUT vs fish just play straight forward for value and try not to analyze them too much.

Thanks for all the help guys!

also was reading somewhere in internet that you can/may play more hands on microstakes, since it's not much to see flop and you can probably win more....

This is just one example of low level poker thinking...I'm at a 1/2 NL table at Foxwoods and get dealt KK in the UTG +2 seat and I open the action with an $18 dollar raise and get two callers...flop comes 5.7.J..I bet $50 and get one caller, river comes a Q and I bet $50 again thinking he might call the same bet again and I don't want to lose him...he snap calls. The river is a 8 and I bet $75 and I get snap called again..he had a bout $100 left. I turn over my Kings and he tables 5.7os for a flopped two pair. I'm sick but just tap the table and say "nice hand"..A couple hands later my curiosity gets the best of me and I ask..That was a nice call preflop are 5.7 your lucky cards ? he replies "sorta, I was number 57 on my HS football team, I always play those cards. Just when I thought I had heard the most insane thing another player who was not in the hand says "Hey me too. I alway play 2.4 because I was number 24 on my hockey team !" Thats what your up against at the lower levels...Its a minefield. Now these players are long term losers no doubt but in the short term they can kick your nuts into orbit, have 5 or 6 of these mental cases at the table and your toast. Micros and low limits in a casino will drain you.

Isn't that the truth. These players at the live $1/$2 tables are some of the worst players I have ever seen. There is better play online in microstakes. Usually they pay you off. However, sometimes they hit the lotto on you.
