I lift and spin the table so by the time everyone has gathered up their chips and the cards and figured out who had what, I feel much better.

i know it won't be easy and you've already heard the best advice - get up, quit, take a break, etc.
sooner or later your tilting will settle down the more you play.
you'll realise it's all in the game and there's nothing you can do about it. just remeber the times it was the other way around when you won with the lesser hand. haha we've all done it - for pot odds or maybe the halibat, lol.
i know i don't take the game as serious as i use to because of that reason and saved my moniter in the process. hahaha
.
good luck and peace..........................:)

Take a break

If it's a cash game, leave the table for a few minutes.

If in a tourney, go outside and have a smoke/chew/bowl/beer.

Realize bad beats or plays are going to happen.

For me, this is the primary reason I can't go fulltime with poker. I guess it would be more of a combination of boredom (for not being able to play higher limits b/c of my bankroll size) and tilting. For example, just 2 days ago I made a small deposit on UB just to check the site out - $12 - I built it up to over $40 in about 24 hours of play - on an average of 3 - 1/2 cent no limit tables at a time. Then I got what seemed to be about 12 - 15 really bad beats within a 6 hour period (sets cracked 4 times, AA cracked 4 out of 5 times I had them, flopping the nut straight then getting sucked out on, etc.) SO I started "tilting" a little bit and started to play 5/10 cent tables a completely different style, very loosed and very aggressive, but very stupid as well, ended up dwindling my bankroll down to about $10 in less than 3 hours ( on that site) - lol.

Many people have asked that question in the past and the only way to stop it is to jump up a cliff. lol

Honestly i just try and calm myself, if I have to I just take a break for an hour or so and collect myself and accept the bad beat... had two bad ones today, two outer on the river for a set and someone got a better two pair than me on the turn when I was all in on the flop... you just have to find a way to deal with it.

Play TAG till you get your head back into the game.

If its real bad:
Step away for a bit.
Take a Break.
Come back when your head is clear.

Good Luck

Tilt is allowing emotions to dictate play. So emotions must be brought under control as quickly as possible. To do this understanding what caused the loss is extremely effective.

Your emotions will flare after you lose a hand (or a few hands). Now when you lose the loss is due to primarily one of three things:

1. Bad play on your part. (you get it in behind, when you should know better)
2. Bad luck in spite of good play (You lose your 80/20)
3. A true cooler (Flopped boat against flopped quads)

If the problem is #1 this is the hardest thing to resolve emotionally. But you have to be honest with yourself. Resolve not to do the stupid thing you did again any time soon, and go on with a clear head. If you cant learn from your poker mistakes then the game will stop being fun eventually. ;)

If it is number two this is easy to solve. You did the right thing and luck just got the better of you! Keep doing the right thing. Even when this occurs several times in a row (or seems to) you MUST remember that in the long run getting it in ahead is THE winning play! You can't win without somebody else doing #1 or tilting.

Number three just doesn't happen all that much. :)

The more quickly you right your mind the better off you are. As has been said. If you can't then quit.

If you notice yourself becoming overly loose, agressive or passive. YOU ARE TILTING.

it will also give you good time to think of new strategies :)

i got the same problem as well, maybe even more serious. As i lost my temper i would start making brutal bet with shit hands until i zero my bankroll. It happen to me many many times. To refrian from that, first must stay away from the PC, leave the house , go do sometime, anything until clam. For me whenever i lose half my bankroll i straightly force myself to take a 2 hrs break. And it works for me most the time

While all those are good after the fact I'll take a different tack. Everyone's attacking the symptom not the real problem.

Prevent tilt to begin with.

Try to get in the habit of making good decisions. Know the odds. Then understand the flow of luck. If you are playing within a proper bankroll bad beats shouldn't matter much. Some of the best pros swear by this.

Tilt is just another form of "playing results" IMO. It's like after you fold 72 and see the flop was 722 and get mad. Why??? What did you lose? You can't play every hand so just let it go. Same thing with aces getting cracked. You're 80% to win but still 20% to lose. There is a gamble involved. Can't handle that, play a different game. Chess, Tennis or UFC would be good.

Mike Caro says encourage your foes when they suck out. "Great play there with bird flu (62), I won with that exact hand TWICE yesterday!" Believe it or not if you can make a game of it even if it's just talking to the monitor it'll help keep you in good humor. Once I really got that the tilt monster was much tamer.

Better to take your time in any poker game.Bad beats happen all the time and sometimes a donky will come up with a pot thats yours and that he/she had no buisness being in.Frustration leads to losses plain and simple.Keep your emotions consistant nomatter win or lose and you will see your profits increase!

+10 ;)

Remember that your a winning player and all your profit comes from players making bad decisions, sometimes they get lucky, most of the time you take their money. Move on and make another player make a bad decision.

* Also when a hand really hurts, take a break. I usually go outside, smoke a cig, and replay the hand in my head.

TILT: An emotional reaction to a statistically unlikely event.

How silly is that?

The best thing to do is simply quit for a few minutes, hours, days, or weeks... whatever is the best time period for you to cool off. When you feel that you are ready to play again and be a winning player, get back on the tables and start playing!

I Agree

I do the same thing after a bad beat where i lose a doecent amount of chips. I get mad and go all in, and lose most time.
