Early last year, Cardschat ran some special tournaments to celebrate 200,000 members. Included were two poker games I had never played, Badugi and 2-7 Triple Draw. So after a quick read on the rules and strategy, I played each game for about 15 minutes, using play money.

Just for the record, Badugi never rang my bell. However, I liked the 2-7 Triple Draw, although have never played it outside the Cardschat games.

Play money poker and real money poker, is sort of like renting a house or buying a house. If you never buy the house, you can never have a chance to make a profit.

No - it's almost impossible to find a serious enough play money game to practice actual strategy. My suggestion if you don't, or can't invest in a buy in, is to play freerolls. The higher levels in freerolls become serious and are great opportunities for learning and training with out the chance of losing anything except for what you may have cashed in that tournament. Freerolls! Not Play Money to train for free.

As we know, that we all start off with some play money to practice and see what poker is about.
But after topping up your account with real money, do you leave out the play money? Or do you still use the play money as a way of practicing poker?
Let me hear.... [emoji12] [emoji12] [emoji12]
I would say play money games can only cut down on boredom, but even they become easy and boring.

Play money is good enough to learn relative hand strength, bet sizes and these basic stuff. People are not attached to play money so the experience you will get from it is not real.
Play freerolls if you don’t want to risk your money and even that is not so real but it’s closer

I start off with play money to practice and see what poker was about. But quickly learn that I was not going to learn anything playing with play money. But after playing with real money I havn't play with play money anymore.

when I started playing poker, I played for game money. It's silly to play for money if you just start learning.:)

Play money poker is purely for entertainment - you can't learn how to play poker playing with a bunch of people who have nothing invested in the game and no real reward for playing well.
Yes i agree with u as i played with play money for a year but i do not make any advance skill of poker. After i turn to real money may be i loss money at the beginning but after that i noticed my improvement gradually better and better.

Playing for play money should be done just for fun. The only time I sit at a play money table is testing out a HUD or something.

For practice? No. For entertainment? Yes. I do think you can learn from playing with play money, but I don't think it's substantial enough because it's not a real game. There's no real risk or reward, so the human element is completely taken away

I would never play any game for play money online, as it's a waste of time for me (and it's simply worst poker you can play). A big exception is live poker games with my family, relatives and friends. I would never play poker for real money with them, even if they asked for. Because i'm conscious about that i have a huge edge, as i'm playing probably more hands per month, as they been playing the whole time. They aren't addicted poker players like me. And they never been study the game. So playing poker for real money with them would be just a robbery. And i don't do such things to the people i love.

I think poker with play money is not a poker ;) It`s just a video game based on luck

I suppose when you are learning the game, play money is good. But after you have learned the rules it needs to sting when you lose or you will never get better. If I am not playing for real money, I think I would rather play Elder Scrolls.

Personally for me, playing money is needed only to participate in home games at pokerstars

yeah it doesn't make sense at all. it is even worse than freerolls to find a game where you can improve yourself. playmoney is in my opionen to 99% a waste of time
