mmm, why?u got it in good but i cant see how u get value from ur hand if u do this

I don't know if it's peel's rationale but I love the shove there.

It screams low mid pair or bluff and at low levels is getting called by most ovepairs "OMG I HAS OVERPAIR CALL!!". don't want to be shoving QQ to a check on many flops when that stacked, but there it's not a bad variation to have, your not getting much value out of draws or AK-AJ hands anyway.

exactly, the 2 guys in the blinds would've called with anything from 22- Ace high lol they didnt have a scoobies how to play 6max and were totally overadjusting, as his call with T5s and subsequent call with his 5's shows, i think a shove here would scream of 2 high cards that have missed the flop and would be called v.wide by bad players like those 2

BTW, dakota I've been railing your mtt that you are playing now and think I have found a leak....Your stack is getting smaller and smaller and when I'm not watching I go back and look in the hand replayer what you did OTB and in CO situations....and you never steal :(

I think at this point you should start to open up your range OTB and on the CO pos only and atleast try to keep your stack at a nice level :p

Also what a lot of people don;t realize is that stealing helps in so many ways other tha taking blinds here and there. Once you do get a monster OTB and on the CO, many give you no credit and you usually get paid a lot more then you would if youd be tight..since many will know you have a good hand :)

True about the stealing being important for metagame reasons. Only caveat would be that for certain stack sizes it can sometimes be inapropriate to steal unless you intend to get your whole stack in (which I guess isn't really a steal). Against decent opponents it is also easy for them to make a pretty decent assessment of their equity and risk when they reraise you. If they have a decent stack they also know they have a relatively small maximum liability.

For example you have 12-15BBs and QTo in th Cut off. If you raise to steal are you really calling a shove? If you are folding then for a start it doesn't really matter what your hole cards are, but more importantly assuming you raised to 3bbs if you are folding you now have 9-12bbs and are in push or fold mode.

Of course there are plenty of situations (villain, card and own image dependant) where it's appropriate to be stealing with a stack in the 12-15bb zone, but sometimes the stack size dicates that it's better to take your chance waiting for a better opportunity to double up basedon the strength of your hand and get back to relative comfort 24-30bbs than to risk entering the real danger territory of <10bbs because of a marginal steal when the best situation is moving to 15-18bbs and you are still in the same area stacksize.

Not disagreeing with your post KC as it's important but I see people forcing the issue in the mid-portion of tourney with stacks that don't allow it when perhaps the better % play is to be patient.

(talking to debi again due to excellent AA shove)

Oops - missed this.

It really isn't a good game to judge that KC - I usually steal loads more from co and button than you would have seen today. But I don't do it with ATC - and I am particularly picky when my chip stack gets too small due to what Rex is saying above.

After that AA hand early in the game I rarely got anything at all to play. I had a pocket pair 5 times I think in that entire tournament and won 3 times. I think I folded a 44 from UTG and folded 66 with a raise in front of me. I had AK once - every other hand was total crap lol. I played a few of them here and there but I was very card dead today.

But my stealing really does depend on my chip stack. I am not saying I might not have missed a couple of opportunities - you need to sweat me sometime to help out with that. But it may not have been as bad as it looked lol.

I think i totally forgot about you possibly being card, and I also think i didnt watch long enough...kind jumped to conclusions.

@ rex: yeah i think when i talk about it, I make it seem like you should steal all the time and ATC, and I am really tight at times too. I think I just steal with ATC when I have good reads. I also know I have to have a leak somewhere, so everything I say isn;t correct...I am no expert :)

Me neither, there's so much about MTTs that is context dependant that it's so hard to make hard and fast rules about anything. The more I play Ring and MTT the more I think that compared to the (almost) Science of ring, MTTs are more Art.

And I'm regularly wrong about stuff fwiw :)

It's great to have this thread to talk this stuff out - it is an added level of support and inspires me to concentrate more and pay attention to the players at my table. Cause I know you guys are gonna ask me for details if I get stuck and want to talk about it lol.
