I know I am not addicted to poker but my parents who hate me playing it, think I am addicted.

My mum keeps saying quit poker, to which I reply quit playing bingo as you have lost money playing bingo, I haven't lost anything playing poker. It shuts her up every time :) The woman never learns tho she keeps saying it :D

In my mind, as i had never spend any money of my own, i am not adicted to poker, but if you ask my wife, or if you spend one afternoon (and part of night) seeing what i am doing, you will come to the conclusion i may in really be adicted to poker....

It is a passion and hobby more than an addiction. When I think of addiction I think of a habit or hobby that is harmful (smoking, degenerate gambling, drugs, alcohol, etc) Since I started all of my bank rolls from nothing, I have nothing invested but time, lots of time. Its not lost time necessarily because it has improved my craft/game, and made me a much better and profitable player. I have had to learn to balance my time since I have been married and had a child. I ultimately want poker being my main source of income, and I hope to accomplish that sooner than later. I see grinders at the casino every weekend that has retired from a nine to five and made the casino their office. But then again, like I stated in my earlier post, some lose their house payment or grocery money in a holdem game, which definitely is not cool. That is why I love the fact that you can grind to something from nothing. If you feel like you have a problem, you most likely do and it should not go overlooked. I think the moral of the story is finding a balance, too much of anything could be harmful to the mind and/or body.

I think that i'm addicted to poker a little. I think about it all the time, if I played well last hand or no. Otherwise I watch various tournament like PCA 2013, wsop and others tournament. I read some things relevant to poker like news.

LIVE PLAY

Hi everyone,

My view is that online poker is largely quite a negative thing. Or too much of it, judging by this forum many of us invest a lot of hours sat next to our computers.

My opinion is that there is an incredibly easy way of transforming your passion into something much more positive and fulfilling. PLAY LIVE. This way you get to interact make new friends and also discuss poker strategies with people in person conversation is more dynamic and pushes your brain a lot harder to learn and improve.

All the best poker players in the world play live and do so predominantly for all their poker, Phil Ivey, Negreanu, Helmuth. Even the great online players make sure they have a healthy balance of live and online play. Some hardly play online and they are the highest earning players of all time.

I have no factual basis for this but, as a hunch I would say the true and best way to Learn poker is by playing live!!

And also playing online you miss all the camaraderie and there are a mountain of dickheads and trolls trying to rile you up online which you do not get with real-life people. At least if you get knocked out of a live tourny you don't feel depressed as you still got something out of it a great night out and spending time with some good people.

It will also improve your social skills, confidence etc if you have a compulsive/ problematic habitual gambling issue. The compulsive gambling/poker can actually be a way of avoiding putting off life-commitments such as relationships, family and long term problems.

What do you guys think about this? Look forward to hearing from you

I also think you probably would learn more by playing live than online.
The BIG PROBLEM is that to play online, you could do it at anytime, anyplace, and with any kind of pocket. To do it live, you must live in a place where exist other players (i am not talking about a smal group of friends, because in that case you will probably not learn much), games at several diferent hours/time so you could play it when you want it (and not just when it is avaiable), and most important, one wallet that can support it :D :D :D

I can't say I'm addicted to poker, nor will I ever be. I mean, I like playing poker, but if I don't feel like it, or don't have money then I don't play. It's not like a drug to me. :)
