Honestly, as a woman, I don't think it's "bad" to say a generalized statement like "why do so few women play poker?" If it's a statistical fact, there's nothing wrong by exploring reasons. Maybe it signifies that overall women find less interest in the game? Maybe it could signify something deeper, but I don't think that's likely.
Playing live games, it's not a "boys club" -- there are usually at least 1 or 2 females at a table.
More than gender, I find that age range is more predominant than gender with poker players tending to range 50+ (as a majority - both male & female). At least in live games.
As a female, I think women have a large advantage where men often underestimate playing skill -- can't complain there!
