I play all kinds of poker, but I prefer the no-limit Texas Hold 'em. I believe that proffesionalnyj player should be able to play all types of poker at least at a good level

Omaha8, Stud and Stud8 are my favorite games. So I lean towards HORSE even if I'm not all that fond of L holdem and Razz.

My preferred game is Horse. I tolerate NLHE fairly well, but if it didn't exist, it wouldn't make me invent it.;)

Merge offers the best non HE games. Bovada does pretty well. Early last year we players could even create private games at Merge. I am not sure that option still exists.

When I bust out of a local live tourney I often sit at a Stud 8 table for a few hours, maybe O8, never a HE table.

For the most part, all table games in casino's in California are limit games.

Well to be honest I get bored when I play the other games, I don't mind playing stud, omaha, razz, badugi in home games as it adds fun to it when you are not playing seriously. HORSE is fun when you playing with friends.

As for tournament play and trying to cash, I don't want to play for 3 hours if I get bored because I will play bad if I am bored and I would quit poker!! I love hold'em it is my favourite game and I never get bored of it. I get very destructive when I am bored :D

oh do you now :D, you would be great if i was single haha :)

Hi! As you can see from the previous posts, a lot of people play in almost all varieties of poker! Why Hold'em was the most popular? I think that most likely, because of its simplicity! People tend to choose the easiest path in life. Personally, I love pot-limit Omaha, but according to statistics, play it less often than in Texas Hold'em! Because that would be a professional in Omaha, you need to hone their skills in Texas Hold'em!

No limit hold'em, is one of the only pure forms of poker left in our present day.

Holdem should remain the main focus... We shift players here and there, then you'll start getting traffic shortages... The way things are now are great, lets keep it that way.

I just wish they lifted the ban of online poker at the states. Would make for much softer games.

Based on my experience, Hold 'em is the big game for several reasons. Availability. Tv Coverage. Strategy, and critical material online, and in book form. Although several years ago, the other games seemed much softer, and exploitable, they seem to have tightened a bit. However, one of the biggest advantages of non-holdem games in my opinion remains the same as when online poker first got going, and that is, it seems more difficult to bluff or be bluffed in non holdem games, therefore giving advantage to abc play, and starting hand selection over psychology, and reading abilities. Best wishes!

because most people dont know how to play other forms of poker. and if someone decides to go play PLO,they will get slaughtered when they find out their flush is no good,or their straight is no good.

Sorry, but to be considered poker the game must include the hand rankings we normally consider poker hands. Which means RAZZ is not poker. If we include any card based betting game, bridge could be considered poker.

If we want to get picky, 5 card stud would be the purest form of poker.

There it is.

Holdem didn't even exist when I started playing.

NLHE is a game that people can learn to play in minutes (but may take a lifetime to master). Because of this, it draws in alot of people (alot of noobs).
Exactly this...and, many many more NLH games available without having to wait.

I can't remember very well, and haven't played it for 40 years at least, but one of the kitchen table games we used to play was 7 card roll'em. Might have been called No See'em.

Each dealt 7 down cards, and (2 variations) then each would roll one card, and a betting round ensues. The variations would be, each player gets to decide the order of the cards they roll, meaning they looked at their cards and made that decision, and the blind version, where each player sees his cards for the first time when everyone sees them.

When I think about it, the first version (I get to decide what card to roll, and when to roll it) would clearly be the purest form of poker. Also the most devious, perverted form of manipulative poker ever conceived. I don't remember if we played it Hi/Lo but boy would that game be a kick in the ass!

Liars poker may well be the purest. Pure poker fun. No cards needed. You play right off the numbers on the money.

Badugi never caught on

I absolutely love this game and wish that more people felt the same...I am playing quite a bit of PLO and recently started playing PLO8 but this game is extremely danerous to the BR...horse is fun but once again to have quality tourneys you must have a decent player pool...
