Deep stack cash is much more complex than MTTs - especially multiway. So you can teach a good cash game player to be a good tourney player but the other way around is more difficult.

Why do you think Tom Dwan just ignores MTTs?

The 10000-dollar buy-in to the main event is like a big blind in his normal games.

Would you back Phil Hellmuth in a high-stakes poker game?

Hello, it would be necessary to analyze very well but I think that the first phases of a tournament are like a cash game, then the strategy varies in the middle phases as in the last phases of a tournament. but in principle those would be the equalities they have, from there who is better, I think it is noticeable that the players play much more poker in a cash game and the winners do not vary like in a tournament, it is noticeable that the player who plays very well will be the same in a cash game.

At least for me, I always do better in cash games. I suspect it's because in MTT, if you make a mistake you're out. If you get unlucky, you're out.

When it comes to cash, you can jump straight back in.

In my honest opinion, Tom doesn't enjoy mtt's. He prefers the dynamic of the cash-game. I think he really likes being able to felt a player just so they can buy back in so he can do it again, lol. That and he can make more $ at that limit playing cash. Other than the really high-roller events, the player fields are huge (which suck), and trophies and accolades just aren't his thing, imo. He's a true high-roller poker player who plays for money. 🤑

who is stronger, considering if players change discipline, who will survive in an alien environment?
I think cash game players are more skillful players than tournament players. In my opinion, cash games are more difficult and require much more skill and experience than tournaments.

It seems to me that the MTT player is still stronger, because in addition to playing poker, he must also have a strategy for the entire tournament, each hand has its own function and meaning, while a cash player plays each hand as if from scratch and does not have a competitive spirit, which is a minus in his piggy bank.

I see that more and more players are switching to tournament poker from different disciplines, I believe that cash games are the most brutal, and those who engage in fights without rules are stronger:D

Not comparable, a different skill set. I have won and placed in many MTTs but cannot get an edge in cash games.

Both have the same base, but I believe that mtt is more creative as it is necessary to adapt many times and with a large number of players per hour.

  • Cash: Deep-stack tactics, strategic decision-making.
  • MTT: Adapting to change, managing risk, handling uncertainty.
The success depends on individual skill and suitability...

They're not the same game. Different mindset and situations.
