I think playing cash games is more stressful than playing tournaments.

Well, they are different styles of play; however, I would say that the MTT is stronger because it offers more versatility and a broad adaptation to different situations.

you can teach any poker player to play if he wants to and it will be better to play in any poker structure, it all depends on the player, of course, first of all, if he wants to learn to practice, he will do it, but if the player is the same as an example, the cash game will be more difficult than MTT easier

Each one has their own specialty, there is no one that is better than the other, each one is good in their own way of playing

This topic has been discussed many times over the years and everyone seems to have a different opinion.

At the risk of sitting on the fence, I think it largely depends on what area you choose to focus on.

Cash players tend to play 100bb+ deep all the time, so it makes little to no sense for them to study strategy much below that, maybe 80bb, but no lower. This means if they enter a tournament, they will likely crush the early levels because they are so well studied at those stack depths, but as the tournament progresses and the stacks get shorter, the tournament players advantages will come to the fore.

Tournament players will normally focus on <40bb strategy because even in deeper, slower tournaments, the majority of the tournament is going to be played at sub 40bb, so why would they spend hours and hours studying 100bb strategy, when that only makes up a tiny percentage of their game time? This means that if a tournament player rocked up to a cash game, they would struggle because they no so well versed in the strategy to play deep-stacked the whole time.

It seems to me that MTT players are stronger. Due to the number of hours he is playing MTT and I think there is more resistance to Bad beats.

I think a cash game player is likely to be more skilled and to have studied more spots and situations in relation to stack size.

Usually most cash game players are buying in for 100+ big blinds where as most tournaments you might start with 100 big blinds but the stacks get shallow really quickly as the spots become very different.

A lot of pros will tend to play cash games also as their main income as you can control the ups and downs more than tournament poker.

In my opinion MTT is more difficult.

Obviously both modalities are difficult and the post flop with 100 big blinds is much more complex, however, in the cash game most of the time players are in the same circumstances, exceptions when both are 200bb deep...

In MTT there is a huge variety of scenarios. The blinds increase, this already changes the game.

At each moment you have a different number of BBs, as does each player at the table. So you have to know how to play with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 100 effective bbs from each position in different situations.

It is necessary to study each scenario a lot, it is very difficult.

There is still the ICM factor, the variety of tournament formats, regular, turbo, hyper, in addition to the issue of much higher variance in MTTs, requiring an extremely developed mental side.

One more point, tournament players have to perform for 7, 8, 10 hours straight at the highest level. This is very difficult, both physically and mentally, in addition to the social aspect being affected, as the player has to give up many things to spend 10 hours straight in front of the computer. In the long term, if this is not well planned, it can have disastrous consequences.

Questions:

Do those who think cash is stonger play mostly tournaments? They should, it would be easier for them.

Do those who think tournament players are stronger play mostly cash? Again they should, it will be easier for them.

Or are people picking whatever they personally play the most with ego creeping in?

Winning cash game players are generally better poker players than tournament players, So they do better in MTT and cash games.

In my opinion the MTT player will survive longer reason: At the start of a tournament the blinds are low and it is similar to a cash game,at the end of a tournament the blinds are high and you have take risks to survive something a cash game player is not used to.
