Where did you learn playing poker?
I started playing on pokerstars about 12 years ago. I played in tournaments with a buy-in of 11 and 22 cents. Earlier, there were many such tournaments. Unfortunately, when I started, I didn't know about the CardsChat community and spent a lot of time learning the basics. In fact, I learned from my own mistakes at my own expense.

I started watching poker on tv. I had never seen the Texas Hold'em variation before so it was interesting to see the hand's value change as the cards rolled out. So I downloaded a free poker game and played offline against bots. Pretty easy to beat, but I learned the basics. Then I signed up to Full Tilt. Discovered playing real people is way different (obviously!) and was bust without ever unlocking my whole deposit bonus. At that time, Full Tilt had an academy with free videos on more advanced strategies so I watched them and I've been learning ever since. Some of the advice on those videos would be so out-dated now. Crazy to see how far the game has developed since then.

Judging by how tonight went, I am not sure I have learned poker, but I sure have learned how to distribute chips to others!

I first learned to play when I was about 13, playing at lunch in high school. Then started playing online a few years ago...PokerStars and FullTilt. Now mostly PokerStars.

I remember those 11 cents tournaments, i've played a lot of them, but never could get far (the times i made to the prizes were almost always mincashes)

True story – my younger brother, by one year was playing online many years ago, and I walked in while he was in the middle of a hand and asked what he was doing- then it was hooked

I learned the basics by watching my boyfriend play online, and by him asking questions. I watched for a few months before I started playing. But mostly I have learned by playing a LOT.

Got familiar with the game by watching poker on TV.
My most favourite format was Poker After Dark, basically a homegame in a private room in the Belaggio in Vegas for Pros.
Learned a lot by watching the likes of Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Tom Dwan...
Used to watch every episode of the live coverage of the wsop also.
I started playing live poker in local Cardcasinos before I got into online poker.
Now I only play online cause any room was shut down. I prefer live poker actually...
Really need to go to Bratislava for a weekend of live poker. Luckily Bratislava is nearby, basically a suburb of Vienna xD
But who's got the time...

In fact, there is nothing difficult in it to quickly learn how to play poker from scratch and on your own. All that is needed is a good source of structured information, where one could draw all the necessary knowledge, at any stage of becoming a professional poker player. At the same time, what distinguishes an amateur from a professional is not only the number of hands played, but also the time spent on improving their strategy, finding its shortcomings and eliminating them. That is why it is so important to strike a balance between theory and practice.

My husband taught me the basics of poker. I also learned lots by watching him play as well. Then just the continued learning that comes by playing.

Where did you learn playing poker?
I learned poker with my parents when I was 12 years old, but it was 5-Card draw. I started to play Holdem about 14 years ago online and the room was Poker770 which does not exist anymore.

Years ago, while stationed overseas and confined to the base with little to do, my husband and I started playing penny poker with neighbors and friends in our home. I lost 500 pennies in one night, LOL, even after years of trying to learn I am still losing but mostly play money now. I still have much to learn but love playing and trying to learn all the different games 😀
