I think what poker can give you in life is patience, which in everyday life we have so little of it. After many years of playing poker, you become calm in life and you understand sometimes even bad players are lucky and in life you will agree with this just as much as in poker:)

The good thing about poker is that everyone believes that they know how to play it. An understanding of the need to work hard to achieve success, the ability to manage one’s own ego and emotions, and the art of managing finances wisely. If you play poker long enough, sooner or later there will inevitably come a point when you are dealt worse than you could ever imagine in your worst nightmare.

To wait for the moment to shine, odds some times will be against you, but that means you're about to get a streak soon.

Knowledge of poker helps me better understand people and their actions, put myself more in their shoes and look at the situation through their eyes.
Well stated mate.

1. Good things come to those that wait, and sometimes bad things come too, or nothing comes to those same people as well.
2. People can look smarter and dumber than they actually are in a card game. Don't take it personally.
3. You can have a skill advantage or a disadvantage, but at the end of the day you're still a snowball going through an inferno of chance, so don't get hung up on your expectations.
4. Sometimes people don't want to play poker and would rather flip coins instead.
5. Last but not least, poker will always be around but you and your time won't.
